Richard Steltzner established his first Stags Leap District Vineyards in 1965 while concurrently engaging in vineyards management. Steltzner Vineyards' first commercial release was in 1977, and the Steltzner Family established their own modest facility in 1983, with a 3,000 case capacity here in the Stags Leap District. In 1989, Dick & Christine Steltzner began the expansion of their winery with a 710 foot underground storage tunnel, which has allowed increased volume as well as enhancing the quality and characteristics of wine storage. In 1992, the expansion was completed with a Mediterranean style structure providing a new laboratory, special event room, offices and reception area for winery visitors. Today at Steltzner Vineyards you will find Dick's children working with him to carry on his legacy here in the Napa Valley. Allison Steltzner began working with her father full-time in 2002 after completing her Bachelor of Sciences Degree at Chico State, majoring in business administration, with a Read more »

  • Steltzner Vineyards Martini Clone Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

    Snoothrank:

This is 100% Cabernet from the Martini Clone. A mere 156 cases of this beauty were produced. Red plum, cherry and Raspberry and aromas burst from the nose. The palate is stuffed with refreshing raspberry and red cherry notes. Coffee, bakers spices, dusty cocoa and minerals are all in evidence on the lengthy finish. Firm, gripping tannins and rac... • Ok, new year and time for a new topic of discussion.  Just yesterday I opened this Pinot Noir from California that initially sounded promising.  First  - it was given to Sandra as a retirement gift so it was free.  Second - a Pinot Noir bottled in St. Helena CA, so it has to be decent, right? and Third - a nice looking label.  Well, this 2014 Me... • Cool OT, but I would have brought some back-up. Too many unpredictables. Interesting about that Steltzner though - I thought they owned their own vineyards? Do they sell to Ovid? I actually have a few from the 1980s and your opinion is the same as one of my friends - he thinks they lack fruit too. I bought him a case back in the early 1990s and ... Read More

The Gimonnet was in a different league. This reminded me of the Und... Read More

  • Steltzner Vineyards Red Bordeaux Blend Napa Valley Claret 2006

    Snoothrank:

Very nice purply color. Oaky, woody nose. Disappointingly light on initial introduction to the tonguealmost watery. As the wine passes over the tongue, and past the palate, though, blackberry and currant flavors can be detected. Then, there is a big hit of tanninvery drying on the tongue. I think that as this wine warms (I just pulled it ou... Read More

  • Funny emark.I really like Qupe and think their basic Central Coast bottling is one of the best deals around and a Syrah that can compete with many more expensive bottles from around the world. It's vintage-dependent though, so you need to be selective. Their higher end bottlings are more hit-or-miss but can be pretty good when they hit. One of m... Read More

  • Who else is still drinking the 1996 California cabs?  I had yet another bottle on Memorial Day and loved it.  Altamura '96 was lovely. Previously I've loved the 1996 BV GdLatour.  As we know, 1997 amazed people but has largely faded early. Two questions:1. Which of the 2000s vintages will age like the 96s have done so gracefully?2. Which 1996s i... Read More
