St. Joseph Vineyard is a family run boutique winery nestled amid the rolling hills of the Grand River Valley. At. St. Joseph, we believe that all great wines begin in the vineyard where the influences of cultivar, soil conditions, weather vitricultural and cellar practices are reflected in each vintage by what the French call terroir. Our family has been growing wine grapes in Ohio since 1972. In 1986 we planted our latest vinifera (French/European) grape vineyard within the Grand River Appellation to benefit from the unique microclimate the region provides Throughout the year, you will observe family and friends out in the fields tending to the early stages of the wine making process including pruning, shoot positioning, thinning, hedging and other viticultural practices. We believe that all great wines begin in the vineyard where the influences of cultivar, soil conditions, weather, viticultural and cellar practices are reflected in each vintage in what the French call terroir. • "So, what are you going to do on your Travelscope Flavors of Burgundy and Provence cruise aboard Emerald Waterways next July,” one of my viewers asked me.  While I could spend hours speaking about the joys of traveling in France, I restrained myself and answered the question as succinctly as possible --- “A lot.”I guess some details are in order... • Being aware of price points for most of the other varietals I have always wondered why the Pinot Noirs are always priced way ahead of the other varietals. It is almost impossible to purchase a Pinot Noir at the same price point/quality as a Cabernet Sauvignon for under $20Now I live in a region where both Cabernet Sauvignon (Washington State) and... • I’m always being asked to recommend an unusual wine, “one that isn’t Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay”. With media communications improving by the minute it’s getting more and more difficult but at a recent corporate event I saw a few puzzled expressions when I suggested Blaufränkisch. It’s one of my favourite Austrian reds and certainly falls i... Read More

  • Sounds really worthwhile.  What organization put this on? I do agree that green pepper is pretty common, both the vegetable (a sign of underripe fruit, often, but common in syrah and cabernet, the product of MIBP) and the spice (although white pepper or black pepper are more familiar).  Interesting and heartening that Cornas showed well, since y... • The wine, especially the dry red wine, was good if not overpriced. The owner is a jerk.My sister and I went out on the porch to sit in the sunshine and she tried to open up the umbrella set up for shade.
