Springfield Estate is a winery located in Robertson Valley in the Western Cape of South Africa that has been in the Bruwer family (descendants of Bruères of the Loire, France) for four generations. The grapes for these handcrafted wines are grown in lime-rich soils with rocky, clay and sandy elements. The nearby Breede River acts as a climate moderator, cooling the vineyards in the heat of summer to balance the fruit. Their motto: “from the grape to the bottle with care and passion.” The estate specializes in Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux blends and Pinot Noir.

  • We did a vertical red wine tasting at Barboursville Vineyards yesterday.  Two hour drive south from our home in Springfield, Virginia but worth it.  Saturday has the bigger crowds but Sunday is more relaxed, so this was the right day to do it.  We had our friend Lynn with us and then she stayed over for a pasta dinner.  We opened a special bottl... • Sometimes we get used to paying upwards of $100 for a nice bottle of wine from the wine shop.  Those are the 'good days' that we want to remember, but soon you notice your bank account is dropping faster than Trumps approval rating, so you start looking for more value-oriented wines that are tasty in their own right. This topic is all about value... • Hey everyone, what are some of your favorite 'everyday' or M-F types of wines to accompany a regular dinner?  I personally have enjoyed the Montoya Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, and I usually pick it up from Total Wines out here in Virginia.  This is one of those fruit-forward cabs that isn't too complex for me to appreciate, and it usually cost... • Hi Mark!Yes of course, it's a fair swap I would say ;-)Previously I was an avid red wine drinker but recently have taken more of a liking to white wines, especially in the summer. Do you enjoy red wine? A must try is a Pinotage as the grape is exclusively grown in South Africa, it's usually an easy drinking red wine with the smoothness of a merl... Read More
