Spottswoode is a family-owned historic vineyard and winery renowned for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Established in 1882 by George Schonewald, the estate is distinguished by the historic Victorian home depicted on the Spottswoode label. Spottswoode was christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts, who owned the property from 1910 until its purchase in 1972 by Mary Weber Novak and her late husband, Dr. Jack Novak. The first Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon was produced in 1982, exactly one hundred years after the estate’s founding. Today, two of Mary’s daughters, Beth and Lindy, work for the family winery that each year releases four very special wines: the Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc, Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon and the recently-introduced Field Book Rhone. The Novak family is committed to producing wines that faithfully reflect their grape origins. Each Spottswoode wine is known for its refined elegance, balance, and classic structure. • Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon Lyndenhurst Napa Valley 2007

    Snoothrank:

Sweet and gingery on the nose with aromas of coffee grinds and ginger layered over black fruit that shows some hints of weediness. This is fairly dominated by the oak though. Round and bright with acid on the palate, this is broad in the mouth and front loaded with fruit then turning compact and earthy and hollowed out by dry wood tannins on the... Read More

  • Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

    Snoothrank:

Deliciously aged in my cellar for 3 years. The bouquet, sensually stimulated the nose like a freshly cut purple rose. Full bodied and luscious, a wine of distinction and paired nicely with my 38oz Steak. Read More

  • A few days ago I tasted a wine that aged in cement. I looked for more information on aging wine in cement but I didn't find much. If someone can tell me more about the process of aging wine in cement (and the benefits of doing so) then I would very much appreciate it.The wine was a Montecucco DOC. You can find my tasting notes for it here. http:... Read More

  • So you can follow it on the other threads, but I was supposed to fly into New York for the dinner on November 2, but this storm thing messed that up--our cousin had to let his sister use the apartment when she lost power at her home in NJ.  Plus the airlines were saying I might not even get in, and they'd refund the miles.  It was going to be a ... • Howdy, folks.  I have access to very well preserved mid-90s Mondavi reserve cabs. I have been eyeing them for a while and wondered if anyone here has opened them recently and cared to share their thoughts on whether they are worth the $100 or so it would cost to acquire them. Thanks in advance.
