Spottswoode is a family-owned historic vineyard and winery renowned for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Established in 1882 by George Schonewald, the estate is distinguished by the historic Victorian home depicted on the Spottswoode label. Spottswoode was christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts, who owned the property from 1910 until its purchase in 1972 by Mary Weber Novak and her late husband, Dr. Jack Novak. The first Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon was produced in 1982, exactly one hundred years after the estate’s founding. Today, two of Mary’s daughters, Beth and Lindy, work for the family winery that each year releases four very special wines: the Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc, Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon and the recently-introduced Field Book Rhone. The Novak family is committed to producing wines that faithfully reflect their grape origins. Each Spottswoode wine is known for its refined elegance, balance, and classic structure. • Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 1986

    Snoothrank:

Our experience could not have been more disappointing. Upon opening, while the cork appeared fine, the bouquet was all wrong. The initial taste was interrupted by the nose when the glass was brought to the mouth. The wine was flat. We decanted it and the color was a dull garnet, with very little body. We put it aside to let it breathe and had ... Read More

  • I was planning to open a bottle of this wonderful wine when I spotted the notes I made when I bought it, suggesting it won't be ready until 2015.  Does anyone know how likely this is to be true or what the real drinking window is for this wine? Thanks Read More

given my limited knowledge of wine (we moved to the bay area 2 1/2 years ago) the 2005 spottswoode estate cab is the best i have had. granted it is expensive, but this satiates the most important things i look for in a wine: big, creamy, fruity but with a soft finish. i tried a 2007 which was good but still a little too young. the 2005 was perfe... • My father started the tradition when my nieces and nephew were born.  He did it for my daughter too with a 1981 Cabernet. Now she is having a child and I'd like to continue the tradition.  I know it's still early for 2010 wines, but I thought I'd get this started. Any recommendations for a 2010 red wine that should age WELL for the next 21 years?...
