  • As you may know I love Zinfandel. I think it’s the greatest domestic wine produced in this country, both for its historic significance as well as for the exquisite expressions of variety and terrori that the great examples are capable of. As these great examples continue to become more expensive, many are above $40 now, certainly remaining good ... • So, I finally re-introduced myself to Zinfandel.  I bought a half bottle of Seghesio Sonoma '12.  I decantered it for 1 hour and ate it with spaghetti w/tomato-basil sauce.  The wine was dominated by the alcohol -- 14.8% -- and while I tasted black fruit and a very interesting roasted sage note on the mid-palate, the alcohol drive of the wine ma... • Wine writers are not a homogeneous lot. We come in all shapes and sizes, and styles of course. Some prefer to dwell on a single wine at a time, others are more prolific. None are more prolific than my friend Richard Jennings. A veritable tasting machine, Richard, the man behing RJonWine.com is constantly tasting wines and diligently recording hi... Read More

  • A ridiculous number of trigger pullworthies in this new offering, many in their absolute drinking prime. Wish the shop was just down the street from me, rather than the ones that are. But then I'd have to live in NYC.  ;-(I love it when a guy drops 100 cases on a shop, just to 'make some space" in his cellar. Wonder what's going to be filling th... Read More

  • The Cardiac Cuvee is pretty brilliant IMHO and I think it's 90% Syrah anyway, with a bit of Viognier and a bit of Grenache. And it's one of the more inexpensive wines, which is even better because you always want that one to be your favorite. Going in, I'm expecting a lot from it. That and the Arnot Roberts.Anyhow, OT - what is the blind tasting... Read More

  • "Finally, given how much wine there is, do we need S. Rhone blends like the Coudoulet and the Jemrose Cardiac Cuvee?  IMO totally different beast than cool climate Syrah."It's a voluntary tasting Fox. Drink what you want, don't drink what you don't want. I threw the Cardiac in there because I thought you guys would like to try it. No pressure. I... Read More

  • Is it me, or are oaky chards out of fashion? Nowadays most every producer I encounter boasts about their stainless steel tanks. All I want to experience with my Chardonnay is toast with a big ol' pad of melted butter on top. Can anyone recommend some excellent oaky chard producers? Thanks!  Read More
