  • Castano Yecla Solanera 2010

    Snoothrank:

Interesting Spanish red blend of Monastrell (Mourvedre), Cab and Tintorera. Dark black fruits, plum, fig, a touch of something sweet that is wrapped up in some fairly drying tannins. Not overly complex but not bad for an inexpensive mid-week drinker. Read More

  • Bodegas Castaño Mourvedre Blend Yecla Solanera Viñas Viejas 2009

    Snoothrank:

It was very good and full bodied but the 2005 vintage I got had a lot of sediment. So it coated my mouth a lot. Tasted at Total Wine Tasting and purchased for at home. I don't know if I would get it again, but I like the blend. It's very complex. Read More

  • What wine would you suggest (both red & white) to serve at a grand opening of a Pottery Studio in Chicago.  Inexpensive BUT tasty, $8. - $12.I know that's really low, but I'm hoping there are people out there that just LOVE the chase of finding great wines at low prices and I can pick your brains.    Thanks! • Castano Solanera Monastrell Cabernet Yecla 2005

    Snoothrank:

Two days vacu-corked in the fridge and this wine became much smoother and better integrated with incredibly deep rich fruit and a better nose and heavier body. Balance favors the fruit for sure. More obvious chocolate and spice. Rustic, not elegant wine but super tasty and rich without being sweet. I'm guessing the monastrell, to a lesser ex... Read More

  • Castano Solanera Monastrell Cabernet Yecla 2005

    Snoothrank:

Decanted 0 to 30 mins. Rustic, big, and somewhat complex. I think the cab sauv and monastrell and alicante mix in an odd way - a bit more noise than harmony, but not unpleasant. Wine reminds me of a French "Sud" wine only with bigger fruit. Nose of powdery cocoa, earth, and minty herb (or forest floor) with hints of spice and oak. On the at... Read More

  • Castano Solanera Monastrell Cabernet Yecla 2005

    Snoothrank:

91 points and listed as a "Spanish Wine Bargain Under $20" by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. 90 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated purple. Smoky raspberry and cherry on the nose, with a sexy mocha quality adding complexity. Fleshy, round dark fruit liqueur flavors caress rather than pummel the palate. Gentle tanni... Read More
