Shenandoah Vineyards and Sobon Estate are family-owned wineries with a 32-year reputation for producing the best possible wines using low-yield viticulture and minimum intervention wine making techniques. Sobon Family Wines emphasize high fruit and low tannins, and are made with our own sustainably-grown grapes. They reflect the unique Shenandoah Valley terroir, resulting in a richness and intensity rarely seen elsewhere. Award-winning Sobon wines are distributed nationally. Both wineries are open daily for wine tasting in the picturesque Amador County near Plymouth, CA.– Description from Mimi Kim

Yesterday we conducted another wine tasting party at our friends Sally & Bob's house in Chantilly, Virginia. I certainly like this method of running the event at another person's house so I don't have to deal with food preparation and things of this nature. Anyway, the theme for this blind tasting was Virginia wines, so everyone brought a wine... Read More
EM - Congratulations on breaking that streak; this one sounds delicious, but you wouldn't know that from looking at the label. What food did you pair it with?Today Sandra and I decided to head out into the country and check out a winery (Muse Vineyards) that won the much sought after Virginia Governor's Cup for 2015 (decided in Feb this year) -... Okay, I get to take two quick trips this month. First, we go to San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, and Cambria (more or less in that order). We have one night in Pismo Beach that we can go out for dinner, and we can do a very limited amount of wine tasting because we will have the kids. So, where do we have dinner in Pismo? If we eat out in Cambr... Read More

I was wondering what sort of new topic I could start that would pair nicely with my previous posting 'Weekday Wines'; well here it is - Weekend Wines. Sometimes I just have to stop and take a minute to pat myself on the back for my quick wit but alas, this isn't one of those times. Anyway, why not talk about wines we enjoy on weekends? These ... This 2011 is very ripe without being hot or over ripe. Nice fruit with soft tannins. Obviously late harvested at 14.5% Alc. Cocoa dominates but there is also black fruit. Has tartrate crystals, a good thing. Nice rich garnet color but not inky. My rating-- 91 UPDATE- There are bottles of this wine that are nothing like what I have described ab... Read More
