Shamrock Vineyard would like to welcome you to the first successful wine-grape planting in Central Ohio. In 1971, Dr. Thomas N. Quilter and his wife, Mary, started planting in the midst of grain fields next to a small farmhouse, just outside of Waldo, Ohio. The idea was to see if grapevines would grow in a climate not perfectly suitable for the cause. And to their surprise some did. In the beginning, the grapes went to home winemakers and wineries until 1984, when Shamrock became a bonded winery. To date, more than 25 varieties have been planted and the most winter-hardy have survived. French-American hybrids, labrusca, and some vinifera make up the acreage which are crafted and tended into Chateau Shamrock wines. Today, the legacy, wines, and vines are now being cared for by the watchful hands of grandson Thomas Van S. Creasap after Dr. Tom's passing in March 2006 and Mary's in January of 2010. Shamrock Vineyard will be celebrating its 26th year of operation in 2010. – Description from Dragac

A little oaky and herbal one the nose with a black cherry blackberry profile that is pure and intense. Rich, chewy and fairly powerful in the mouth with lovely fruit that shows a gentle sweetness and a streak of vanilla that drives through the lively and long finish. This is perhaps a bit simple but very attractive in a lush way. 91pts Read More

  • Edmeades Winery Zinfandel Mendocino County Shamrock Vineyard 2010

    Snoothrank:

Fantastic Mendocino zin! A touch of vanilla on the nose, dark chocolate covered black cherries on the palate with just a hint of salinity and acidity to make your mouth water. This is full of dark fruits but not jammy or over drawn. Although this big red comes in at 16% abv, it's not hot, but well balanced and definitely a keeper. Read More

Deep and earthy on a nose that is rich with sweet, jammy cherry fruit. This is a biggish wine with lots of jammy fruit flavors, but at the same time showing nice spiced oak complexity. The finish shows more sweetness and lingering nutty oak note. A powerful and dark wine. 88 points Read More
