Stucked away in the fertile Susquehanna Valley, our land offers ideal growing conditions for grapes. We are pleased to produce our own premium wines, from vine to bottle. The vineyard began on our family farm in 1989 and has grown to include 65 acres now known as Shade Mountain Vineyards and Winery. We grow all our own grapes, including varieties of Vinifera, hybrids and native vines. These grapes are then fermented, aged and bottled here on our farm. Currently, our vineyard is home to over 40 different varieties of grapes, including the following: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Traminette, Viognier and the list does not stop there!! We enjoy the challege of growing grapes in the northeast, so we are always looking for new varieties to cultivate successfully. Our winery, housed in a 19th-century converted barn, can store up to 20,000 gallons of wine. In 2006, our barn underwent a renovation when an event room fitted with expansive decks Read more »

  • While traveling through Napa Valley last month I noticed that all the Vineyards I visited had roses planted around their crops. They're planted and watched closely for any early signs of infestation on the land. They monitor the Roses closely and upon early signs of problems, protective measures are taken to make sure the grape vines receive a s... • Out of the way, down a drive lost in Spring Mountain, one comes upon Smith-Madrone, a winery that speaks as much of the past as the present. There’s a bit of a Twilight Zone feel here; it’s in a GPS black hole, and somehow it recalls the innocence of a simpler time. (“Willoughby, the next stop is Willoughby.”) Stuart and Charlie Smith play their... Read More
