Seghesio Family Vineyards on Snooth

Great, smooth tasting Zin. Acquired 18 bottles before the Speculator dried up supplies with its review. Even my wine-challenge family liked this at holiday gatherings last year.

This is my favorite Home Ranch Zinfandel yet, and that is saying something since it is, year in and year out, my favorite of the Seghesio Zins. Silky and refined yet powerful and classically structured, this wine is...

Seghesio Zinfandel Alexander Valley Home Ranch 2007

Starting at $31.99 Snoothrank: 4/5
November 2009

my first experience with zin was at a great restaurant (that is no more) where i had just landed my first bartender position, and i had to TASTE all of our wine by the glass! one of the many perks of that job! the zin was...

Hi, Just recently tasted Domenico Clerico Barbera Trevigne 2003 and that was drinking pretty nicely. I also recommend Barbera from Seghesio, his 2004 vintage was gorgeous. For a good (value and drinking) Dolcetto, I would...

Oh, and here are some other decently priced "real" Zinfandel recommendations... Ridge, Ravenswood, St. Fancis, Dry Creek, Seghesio, and Rosenblum. My favorite Zin is Peju. They dont sell it out here on the East Coast,...

This is my favorite Home Ranch Zinfandel yet, and that is saying something since it is, year in and year out, my favorite of the Seghesio Zins. Silky and refined even in its infancy, this wine is already sensational. All...

November 2009

My mind went immediately to zinfandel, and there are plenty of good ones in the $25 range. For something readily available (I'm guessing your stew isn't going to hold until a mail order arrives) I'd look to Rosenblum,...

Just saw that the Seghesio Zinfandel Sonoma County 2007 got '10th best' wine in the world for 2008, from among the nearly 20,000 wines that Wine Spectator reviewed: http://www.winespectator.com/webfeature/show/id/41076

Meet and Taste with Winemaker Ted Seghesio of Seghesio Winery
Tuesday March 3rd, 4 - 6pm, Gary's of Wayne
1308 Rt 23 N, Wayne NJ, 973-633-3900
http://www.garyswine.com

Ted Seghesio grew up next door to the Sonoma winery where he now creates stellar Zinfandel and Italian varietals, but it took a little arm-twisting from his mother to enter into the family business. In 1983, he re-invented his family’s winery, focusing on quality grapes rather than bulk wine, and finally putting the Seghesio name on the label.
Ted views the family’s winemaking history as a benefit in terms of wine quality. “We have produced grapes from our vineyards for over a century and we know what they can produce superior fruit,” he states. “We continue to look for ways to improve our vineyards at each of our six Sonoma County properties.” Ted will tell you that his goal as a winemaker is to make a wine people seek out. “Then,” he smiles, “ultimately improve upon that.”

Join Ted this Tuesday to taste the following wines from his portfolio:

2007 Seghesio Fiano, Russian River Valley:
Usually grown in the marine-influenced town of Avellino, Italy - Fiano excels in Seghesio's Keyhole Ranch Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. A short crop in 2007 gives this wine intense fruit focused on honeysuckle and orange blossom. Floral notes on the nose and hints of grapefruit on the finish reveal this wines exceptional balance.

2005 Seghesio Sangiovese, Alexander Valley
A long cool growing season in Seghesio's Home Ranch Vineyard in Alexander valley give this wine classic structure and balance. Hints of violet and mineral earth give way to dusty cherry and explosive dark fruit flavors. With almost 100 years of experience growing Sangiovese at this site, the 2005 vintage is our most complete and complex to date.

2006 Seghesio Cortina Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley
A classic dry creak zin, with concentrated red fruits and amazing balance. 100% Zinfandel from old head pruned vines give this wine focus and structure. Intense flavors of black current, raspberry and hint of white pepper give way to an elegant finish defined by ripe acidity and integrated tannins.

2006 Seghesio Old Vine Zinfandel
Our best zinfandel from our oldest-vine vineyards. All Sonoma Estate vineyards in Dry Creek and Alexander Valley, this is a true Old Vine Zinfandel. 90 yr old vines on average give this wine intensity and structure. Rich aromas of Blackberry and cassis give way to a lush and expansive finish showcasing the magic of a vine being in the same ground for nearly a century.
