  • I once, a few years back, almost pulled the trigger on a real estate purchase in the hills back behind the Big Sur coastline. Was reminiscing on that today, and wondered why I never hear about wine from that area. Is it because I'm so far away and out of touch and there actually are barrels and barrels of wine being made there, or because the cu... Read More

  • Perhaps we could use a place to share recent purchases...Here are some '12 Burlotto Langhe Nebbiolo, which came highly recommended from a trusted friend who just got back from a month in Italy. I'm not seeing many available in the States quite yet, but was happy to find these locally. Read More

  • California Cabernet Sauvignon 2000

    Snoothrank:

I bought this bottle for $3. While relaxing on the couch on a Thursday night, I decided to grab a glass before bed. I opened and poured, gave my wife a sip and she asked, "Why'd you open a good bottle right now?" The taste is smooth and subdued. • We've been enjoying Searidge all summer. It began with the Chenin Blanc. All the white selections have been a suprise. Definite sleeper.

  • The 2008 Merlo is very pleasant with a spicey peppery flavor.

  • I also discovered this winery at Safeway - bottom shelf and inexpensive. I purchased the Cabernet Sauvignon on whim - the labeling seemed to emit a quality message without hype. The Sea Ridge Coastal Winery 2007 Cab is an absolute sleeper! This is actually a rather complex and elegant Cabernet Svgn with an honest bold body, just the right amount...

  • Found this wineries wine at Safeway. The 2007 Cab, 2007 Syrah and 2006 (I think) Zinfandel were all excellent for inexpensive wine. The Zin got several compliments at Thanksgiving dinner. And I like both the Cab and Syrah. The 2007 Merlot was O.K.
