The School House Vineyard is nestled among the cool, lush forested slopes of Spring Mountain above St. Helena, where Langtry and Spring Mountain Roads intersect, at an elevation of approximately 1500 feet. The vineyard takes its name from the 1890s one-room school house which graced the property until it was consumed by fire in the mid 1980s. The School House has lent its name to this fascinating and unique vineyard property which has quietly produced very small quantities of some of the most sought after Napa Valley wines since the mid-1950s. Steeped in Napa Valley history, School House is the ultimate cult wine producer, cult before cult was cool! – Description from dvoristanac

  • Greg, don't even read this!Yesterday I hosted a pinot noir event.  It was a blind tasting of three BC and one California.  Talk about getting out of the box.  For me this is tantamount to cross-dressing.  It started because Chester introduced me to the Kettle Valley "Hayman" reserve Pinot last year.  I really liked it, so when I found one (83 ca... • I once, a few years back, almost pulled the trigger on a real estate purchase in the hills back behind the Big Sur coastline. Was reminiscing on that today, and wondered why I never hear about wine from that area. Is it because I'm so far away and out of touch and there actually are barrels and barrels of wine being made there, or because the cu... Read More

  • Most fairy tales have a happy ending but there’s a wonderful story that unfolds every year in the middle of France, bringing wealth and riches to the poor every time it’s told. And, as if by magic, the bags of gold grow bigger with every telling. Are you sitting comfortably? Way back in 1440 the Chancellor of Burgundy, Nicolas Rolin, looked from... Read More

  • After much agony and discernment, I have chosen the official wine for my Super Bowl party this year. Over the 9 years I've hosted this event, it is probably the least exotic selection, not to mention least expensive.  Given the fact chili is the main dish (oh please, don't turn your nose. After all, we're American pigskin fans, not Bolsheviks), ... Read More

  • Mine started about six years ago when I met my wife.  We played volleyball in an adult league against each other and hit it off at the bar after.  We never drank wine together (only lots of beer) and the subject never came up.  We had been "dating" a few weeks when I invited her over to make us dinner.  She said she would bring a bottle of wine.... • So what’s not to like? 2010 Barolo is in the hype machine right now and as much as i would like to say that they hype machine is in overdrive, which it perennially is, this is one time where much might be warranted. that’s not to say that 2010 is a universally fabulous vintage. It simply is not with more than a handful of wines showing under-rip... Read More
