The School House Vineyard is nestled among the cool, lush forested slopes of Spring Mountain above St. Helena, where Langtry and Spring Mountain Roads intersect, at an elevation of approximately 1500 feet. The vineyard takes its name from the 1890s one-room school house which graced the property until it was consumed by fire in the mid 1980s. The School House has lent its name to this fascinating and unique vineyard property which has quietly produced very small quantities of some of the most sought after Napa Valley wines since the mid-1950s. Steeped in Napa Valley history, School House is the ultimate cult wine producer, cult before cult was cool! – Description from dvoristanac

  • I know there have been at least one or two conversations about buying wines at Costco, but I happened to catch the one hour documentary about Costco on CNBC, last night.  They actually spent a significant portion of the program (8-9 minutes) about wine sales.  Here is the thing that blew me away.  Apparently, annual wine sales at Costco exceed a... • Wanting to refresh my memory on certain French vintages in the Rhône Valley I came across (as I often do) the Robert Parker Vintage Chart.  Parker includes vintages from 1970 through 2010 on his website and scores them on the usual 100 point scale.  He claims that scores of 70-79 are "average" while those of 80-89 are "above average to excellent... • A couple of news items I was pondering today.First, Robert Parker came out with his ratings for the 2009 Bordeaux vintage. Ever the masochist, I decided to go look at some prices in the marketplace after the ratings were released. Got about a dozen cases moved closer to home, so now I'm pretty well set for the next few months of drinking! Next bottle up looks like it might very well be 1987 Dunn Napa Valley. Funny how Dunn was ... Read More

  • The discussion about "natural wine" Vs "industrial wine" is really hot in Italy. • When I introduced myself to Snooth, last spring, I mentioned that my brother-in-law had gifted me with a bottle of wine that he'd picked up on one of his fishing expeditions to Baja California--Casa Pedro Domecq 2007 Reserva Real, a blend of Barbera and Ruby Cabernet.  I asked if anybody on Snooth had any experience with this or Mexican wines in... • I recently heard that in addition to its contribution to the flavor and complexity of wines, that oak was also an effective anti-oxidant, helping the wine to age gracefully for longer periods of time. Also, that sediment in older wines had to do with the oak.It prompted me to search for some additional articles or info on oak. Found this random ... Read More
