Sanguine Estate vineyard and winery established in 1997 is located approximately 5km along the Northern Highway from the turn off to Echuca (North of Heathcote). The Hunter Family worked weekends to establish the initial 16 acres that grew rapidly over the following years to 55 acres by 2002. Having no experience in viticulture or winemaking, Linda and Tony sent their son to study a Viticultural Course at Dookie University whilst charging him with the responsibility of maintaining and developing the Vineyard. At the same time, they engaged Matt Hunter (no relation) to produce their first vintage of Shiraz and later engaged well known Winemaker Peter Dredge. Since the 2005 vintage, son Mark Hunter has become the full time winemaker for the suite of Sanguine Estate wines with guidance from consultant winemaker Ben Riggs. – Description from markomkc

  • Sanguine Estate Shiraz Heathcote 2003

I would give this wine an 8/10. It has such fantastic body and finish. The experience on your tongue for such a relatively medium bodied wine is surprising in a fantastic way. First you get hit with the spice and blackberry fruit, then the tannin structure of the wine takes over, and brings a liquorice taste with it that sits on the palate just ... Read More

  • Red Edge Shiraz Blend Heathcote Degree 2006

Heathcote specialist Peter Dredge has worked with Hoddle Creek Estate's Franco d'Anna, and with Ben Riggs at nearby Sanguine Esate. Planted in 1971 to ancient Cambrian soils, the unirrigated single parcel of mature vines at Red Edge yields a scant 1.0 to 1.5 tons of fruit per acre. A tiny tot of Riesling is added to this Shiraz and Mourverdre wi... Read More
