Sandyford Vineyard is part of our 400-acre family farm based in the village of Great Sampford in rural North West Essex. As well as the 2-acre vineyard, we grow wheat, barley, sugar beet, oilseed rape and beans and rear free-range turkeys for the Christmas market.
The vineyard was planted in 1999 on a sheltered southwest facing slope with the help of family and friends. Since plantation we have now become part of the rapidly growing group of small-scale wine producers whose extraordinarily fine and distinctly English selection of wines are enjoying ever-increasing popularity.
Our 2000 vines, all Germanic varieties, are ideally suited to East Anglia's climate, which enjoys long hours of sunshine and a low rainfall. This, combined with our horticultural expertise and partnership with highly qualified winemakers, has enabled us to produce a range of top quality white, red, rose and sparkling wines, several of which have won prestigious UK wine industry awards.
