It all began when Italian immigrants John and Emma Salvestrin fell in love with St. Helena while visiting friends in the early 1920’s. In 1932 they purchased a portion of the historic Crane Ranch, including the Victorian home of Dr. Crane. With the repeal of prohibition in 1933, they started selling grapes and the industry began to grow again. Ed Salvestrin, who grew up on the family vineyard, continued to grow quality grapes through the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s preserving the family legacy for future generations. He still lives on site and frequently tends to his fruit trees (apples, pomegranates, grapefruit, persimmon) when he’s not helping out in the vineyard. In 1987, Rich Salvestrin completed his degree in viticulture from Fresno State University. He returned to the family vineyard to help farm and also to expand the families grape growing business to include winemaking. 1994 was the inaugural vintage of Salvestrin Cabernet Sauvignon and in 2001 the estate winery was Read more »

  • Cult Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley By Salvestrin

    Snoothrank:

Bought this on a suggestion from the folks at total wine, and it has turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment. I think there are much better cabs out there at a lower price. The nose has ripe fruit and slight licorice scents. The palate also has some muted fruit but is dominated by strong mushroom and earthy flavors. Less than medium comple... Read More

  • Cult Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley By Salvestrin

    Snoothrank:

This cab should be on everybody's best value under $30 list. It's Nonvintage which is interested and on the plus side, you can keep getting a consistently good wine year after year (at least theoretically) This has all the classic signs of a great Napa cab (at about half the price). Rich black fruit, vanilla, oak, full body and ripe tannins. Read More

  • Salvestrin "Retaggio" Napa Valley 2006

    Snoothrank:

Ripe dark fruits balanced with a touch of acidity. Chocolate, tobacco and vanilla with a touch of earthy saddle. Mouth is full with medium plus weight, long lively finish. Beautiful wine, great integration of sangiovese with traditional NV fruit. Unbeatable value. Purchased this wine through a "friends of harvest" speical, a co-op effort by... Read More

    Snoothrank:

I love this because it's not too overpowering. Very dry but still packed with blueberry and chocolate. Some tobacco notes. Paired this with pot roast. Perfect! This has got some aging potential. Read More

Solid cab. Wonder dence fruit flavors. Deep dark dried fruit, light spice box with big Napa cab tanins. This wine is great, and I mean great now, but I have 3 more bottles and I am going to let the get some age. I give this wine a 93 rating... Read More
