S. E. Chase Cellars pays homage to Sarah Esther Chase Bourn a woman who, like the wine which bears her name, demonstrated incredible strength of character, an indelible personality, and a take-notice presence. The wife a wealthy businessman, Sarah Esther Chase discovered the Napa Valley while visiting the area's spas in the late 1800's. But it was a tragedy that compelled her to create a home in the valley. After the loss of a young son, Sarah persuaded her husband William Bourn to purchase the Madrona Estate, as it was known, on the southwestern edge of St. Helena. With a strong will and determination Sarah turned the property into a working ranch. In addition to the vineyard that already existed, Sarah added chickens, olive trees, wheat, corn and even a silk worm farm to her holdings. A colorful figure in the community, who was noted as much for her travels to Europe with her daughters as her goings-on at Madrona, Sarah's legacy became the vineyard that first attracted her to the property. • Zinfandel, it’s no secret that I’ve carried on a long and intimate relationship with you. There is so much you have to offer. Sometimes you're a bit rough and tumble, edgy, even dangerous, while other times you’re coy or playful. But you’re always there for me, with joyous fruit, classic bramble notes and structure, allowing for early consumptio... Read More

  • Chase Family Cellars Hayne Vineyard Reserve Zinfandel Napa Valley 2009

    Snoothrank:

Tight and fine on the nose, with shaved cedar French oak, tight dark woodsy fruit, and creamy blueberry pie top notes. This is bright, mineral and smooth in the mouth with a powerful if not terribly fruit-driven palate that shows fine complexity. This has power and depth with a faint edge of sweetness that's balanced out by the dark bitter hint ... Read More

  • Chase Zinfandel St. Helena Hayne Vineyard 2007

    Snoothrank:

As with Napa Cabs the '07 Vintage seems to be great for 100 year old Zin Vines! Complex nose of cedar, blackberries and blueberries. This zin is well structured with more tannins than you might be used to. Flavors of ripe blackberries and spice give way to nice subtle oak and a very long finish. Read More
