On September 14th 1428, Guilhem de Siran took the feudal oath at the hands of the prior Sainte Croix de Bordeaux in their nearby Macau Church. The property at times bore the name of Saint-Siran in honour of a holy Abbott originating from Burgundy, who after several pilgrimages to Rome came back to Gaulle and settled in Toulouse at the time of the Franc king, Clotaire II. In the 19th century, on 14 January 1859 to be precise, the chateau became the property of the same Miailhe family. Their ancestor, Leo Barbier, bought the estate for 100 000 francs from the Count and Countess of Toulouse-Lautrec, the grandparents of the famous painter of paris night life Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. • I've gotten a lot of flack for some of my opinions about these 2007 Bordeaux. While there certainly are many poor 2007s, the vintage is not a complete wash-out. It really depends a bit on what a person is looking for. 2007 Bordeaux, at their worst, exhibit bitter unripe tannins and dominant, green vegetal flavors, but is there more to this vinta... • Château Siran Red Bordeaux Blend Margaux 2007

Fairly herbaceous, very Bordelaise, dried bell pepper, cigar box, sweet red currant fruit rather rich on entry, blocky, a bit extracted, nice fruit, full tannin load, nice acid cut on the mid-palate, powerfully built with an assertively oaky finish, (87-88) Read More

Fleshy, but slightly 'hot' and coming across as alcoholic - perhaps not unreasonably for an '03? Read More

  • Château Siran Red Bordeaux Blend Margaux 1986

It was quite a number of years since I had this wine but it still lingers in my memory. I tried this wine before I really knew anything about wine, a good thing I didn't hold on to this one as it would be a very expensive vinegar by now. I remember storing the bottle on top of my book case, a nice high warm spot with plenty of light... anyway ... Read More

  • Château Siran Red Bordeaux Blend Margaux 2001

Tasted May 2008: This wine has an intense, deep colour with some remaining purple and as yet no signs of degradation. The nose is quite powerful and foursquare for a Margaux, and although lacking in flavour and poise, there is some finesse and a fine perfume of red berries (including cherry and strawberry). On the palate the wine is rather subdu... Read More
