Rusack was established in 1995 by Geoff Rusack and Alison Wrigley Rusack with a commitment to creating world-class wines. In the years since then, this dedication to quality has meant some dramatic changes at the winery. The most visible change is in the vineyard. Following the 2001 harvest, many of the original vines were pulled out and replanted under the guidance of viticuluturist Hope Fidziura and winemaker John Falcone. Utilizing cutting edge technology and taking advantage of Ballard Canyon’s unique terroir, varieties to be grown were carefully chosen and limited to those clones best suited to the microclimate. Syrah, Sangiovese, and Sauvignon Blanc have been planted, along with smaller lots of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot to be blended into the renowned "Anacapa." – Description from Kursulla

Light red fruit on entryplum, mostly. Savoriness, some earthiness, very moderate tannin and very moderate acid. An enjoyable, easy-to-drink wine. Definitely a drink now wine, not a candidate for taking up cellar space. Read More

  • EM, Rusack could be interesting because they might let you taste some wine made from grapes grown on Santa Catalina Island.  Babcock is a pretty old winery for the area, so you might get some history about the other wineries and the pioneers.  The wine I have had from there was just okay.  Lincourt is something like the Patz and Hall of SB, exce... • One of Syrah’s problem with consumers has always been the savory nature of the wine that is often coupled with some aggressive tannins. The solution to both issues, if and when they are viewed as problems, has been to get Syrah so ripe that it is all about fruit, has minimal tannins, and at the same time low acidity and no real complexity. As a ... Read More

  • Carnivores and grillers, a few reasons to love Syrah: it’s a fantastic wine for pairing with any roasted meats, especially red meats like beef and lamb, as well as wild game.
