Rodney Strong Sauvignon Blanc Charlotte's Home 2008

In a blind tasting I would guess this was a $20 Sancerre. Almost no fruit. Very mineral and terroir driven. I love it because it was not what I expected from a Sonoma Sauvignon Blanc.

dark fruit characteristics, blackberries, black plums, and currants, very fruit forward and easy to drink, appeared to be a classic california cabernet

Nose filled with vegetal, mushroom, earthtones, funky smells but intriguing. and then on the palate amazing red fruit, cherry and spice with the earthnotes underlying and more pronounced on the finish

Rodney Strong Chardonnay Sonoma 2008

I wish all cali chardonnay was made like this. Small kiss of vanilla oak with a touch of light bubbles. Well balanced and lighter bodied than expected with surprising soft acidity. Great sipper. Not really a food wine, which is fine. Just a really pleasant experience.
