Didn't appreciate this well, just because the Montevetrano was so intense. But this was lovely and light and yet full-bodied. Read More
Classic expression of Nebbiolo. Nary a trace of oak in sight, but so well supplemented by tannins that cling like newborn child to mother. Barnyard funky rose fruit fun awaits. Read More
While this tasting predates my tasting of 1980 Barolo by more than a year, I ... I ... perfumed like the Rocche dei Manzoni, with lots of floral character. At decanting: warm, Beefy and ketchup on the nose with a certain sweetness. Quite Burgundian in the mouth with forest floor and faint red fruit flavors. Wow, man meets woman, lots of cigar box, ash and perfume on the nose makes this very interesting and attractive to smell. While very smooth and well layered texturally, this shows a real high ac... I have a good memory and as with most people it is particularly astute when ... not be entirely true. The Rocche dei manzoni Riservas from 1978 and 1982 are credited with being some of the first fully barriqued wines and they turned out splendidly, though the current releases from Rocche dei Manzoni seem to be wildly over-oaked. Or perhaps the... Read More
I tasted this wine two weeks ago. Darker than a pure Nebbiolo, but floral like a Barbaresco, lingering, long, elegant and velvety. It's probably in its best. We did not have the opportunity to wait more than half an hour before drinking it, but it would have been better to drink it with more time of decanting. Read More
