River Road Vineyards started in 1976 with the purchase of a 78 acre Chardonnay Vineyard on River Road about a mile from the small community of Forestville in Sonoma County. A shift in grape availability to a surplus in the market was created by overplanting throughout California. Wine grapes, even high quality wine grapes, are occasionally in over supply. Out of the necessity to find a home for part of our fruit River Road Vineyards became a small winery. River Road Vineyards has grown over the years, and most of our time is now spent making and selling wine. We own and farm a 12 acre vineyard in the Russian Read more »

  • We had a white wine from Viserny last week. That's Viserny there in the photo. It's just down the road from where we live. And you would never guess but it's the most important wine village in the area. The wine we tasted was a well-made-home-made inscrutable, and enough of a curiosity that we wanted to meet the person who made it. So we got an ... Read More

  • Ok, new year and time for a new topic of discussion.  Just yesterday I opened this Pinot Noir from California that initially sounded promising.  First  - it was given to Sandra as a retirement gift so it was free.  Second - a Pinot Noir bottled in St. Helena CA, so it has to be decent, right? and Third - a nice looking label.  Well, this 2014 Me... • v v, I've had a few Alcicante Bouschet varietal bottlings.  The last ohe was a relatively low-dollar example from Coppola.  The first ever Alicante Bouschet varietal bottling that I ever had, in fact, the first time I ever heard of the grape, was in 1980-something when Mrs. EMark and I were on a Northern California road trip, and we dropped in a... • Greg, don't even read this!Yesterday I hosted a pinot noir event.  It was a blind tasting of three BC and one California.  Talk about getting out of the box.  For me this is tantamount to cross-dressing.  It started because Chester introduced me to the Kettle Valley "Hayman" reserve Pinot last year.  I really liked it, so when I found one (83 ca... • I used to think I just didn't like wine, but after finding one made from my FAVORITE grape on earth, the scuppernong/muscadine that happened to be made near where I lived, I fell into a snuggly affair with that one, the Duplin Hatteras Red and decided to try a few more.  So far, the only other wine I've tried and liked enough to purchase again i...
