"Ghost Winery" is the name given to the few remaining early Napa Valley wineries that were in existence between 1860 and 1900. Very few of these Ghost Wineries remain as the vineyards of most Napa Valley wineries were decimated by the phylloxera infestation of the 1890's. The economic depression of that decade was the final blow for many others. As a result, most of these wineries were abandoned or forced into bankruptcy and then laid dormant through prohibition. Over the years that followed, many fell into disrepair and were dismantled or absorbed into newer, more modern facilities. One example of a fantastically preserved Ghost Winery is located on the Regusci Ranch - the T.L. Grigsby-Occidental Winery. – Description from dvoristanac

  • Twenty Bench Sauvignon 2012

What used to be one of all time favorite Cabernets for just under $20 has really fallen from grace. The 2012 Twenty Bench is thin, with no nose and not much depth at all. It seems that Nine North Wines are more concerned with cranking out vintages quickly without putting the time and care required to craft a good wine. This vintage only spent... Read More

  • Welcome to the Snooth Forum, Mindy.  I am impressed that you are drinking ... ... had never heard of the Regusci winery before (It's amazing that after forty-something years of enjoying wine, there are more wineries that I don't know than I do know.), but there was a stack of the Regusci 2009 SLD Cab.  Above the display was a hand-made shelf ... • I love all wines and am happy to have found a great community in Snooth.  I had been living in Napa working for a food manufacturer and part time at a winery for fun.  I miss daily wine conversations.  Attached is a picture of 1998 Regusci Cab that I shared with a friend this weekend from my collection.  It was smooth with great fruit, just enou... • So I am going to Napa tomorrow for a few days.  I have some prearranged plans that cannot be changed, but have some limited  time for tasting. As "napagirl", I should already know exactly where to go.  The problem is, I get stuck into that rut of going to the ones I like, the old faves, over and over.  I would love to hear your recommendations an... • Regusci Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District 2009

Pretty big nose--I get oak and blackberry. Great initial mouth feel. Some berry flavor, nice acid. Tannin kinda sneaks up on you. At first you get the fruit and you're thinking no tannin at all. Then from mid-palate back it kinda crescendos--not overwhelming, but, pop, there it is. US$39.99 at Wine Club in Santa Ana. Read More
