Red Tail Ridge Winery is located on the western shore of Seneca Lake —in the heart of New York State ’s Finger Lakes region—and we are devoted to producing premium dry wines. We believe that wine should be a representation of the land from which it was produced—right down to the packaging. As a result, we chose to name the winery after the nesting hawks that live in the woods near our property. They are our constant vineyard companions and inspiration. Currently, we have 3 acres of Pinot Noir clones, 2 acres of Chardonnay, 14 acres of Riesling, and the rest of our 20 acre vineyard is devoted to Teroldego and Dornfelder. We spend a lot of time and energy to ensure that our vines are healthy and well-balanced, because growing premium grapes is the first step to making premium wine. Our wines, like our grapes, are carefully hand-crafted. We produce small-lots (sometimes less than 50 cases) to further preserve and enhance the varietal characteristics that we generate in the vineyard. We encourage Read more »

  • Hey everyone, what are some of your favorite 'everyday' or M-F types of wines to accompany a regular dinner?  I personally have enjoyed the Montoya Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, and I usually pick it up from Total Wines out here in Virginia.  This is one of those fruit-forward cabs that isn't too complex for me to appreciate, and it usually cost... • Hi everyone.  My wife Sandra and I have been into wine for the past few years and that's led to a few trips to Napa Valley and related areas in 2012 and 2013.  We enjoy all wines but reds are our favorites.  We hosted our first wine tasting party last night and it was a fun event - sixteen wine lovers trying different wines in a blind tasting.  ... • My family and I are brand new to wines, having bought a couple of books and deciding to make a bit of an adventure out of this. We live in a smallish town and haven't been able to find a good local wine shop, so we sort of started in our grocery stores. It's been a bit overwhelming, a bit expensive, and finally kind of frustrating trying to find... Read More

  •  I'm rather new to wine. I've only had de-alcoholized red wines from Ariel and I've had some red and white wines with some relatives who really know their wine. I remember enjoying it very much. But recently I've gotten into wine on my own. I recently picked up some Yellow Tail Shiraz from a nearby Total Wine store. Specifically, I picked up a f... Read More

  • I'll try to keep this one short.  A few months back, I had dinner with OutThere and JonDerry (not their real names) up in Napa.  OT and I traded bottles and I was so enthralled with the bottle of Syrah he provided that I jumped when he said we could go in on a mixed case and get it at $20 a bottle.  Folks, if you can get your hands on Halcon Alt... • With the arrival of fall, it’s always fun to take a look at some of the heartier reds that have been hibernating through the warmer months. I get to taste a lot of wine, but I always look forward to the chances I get to taste Syrah. To me, Syrah is sort of the Riesling of red grapes: remarkably expressive of site. Syrah -- unlike some other, mor... Read More

  • Red Tail Ridge Winery Chardonnay 2008

    Snoothrank:

This light Finger Lakes chard is breezy and comfortable--not too sweet or oaky, but not too thin and tangy, either. A middle of the road chard, perfect for introducing an out-of-towner to an average Finger Lake white. Read More
