  • Oh the memories of Chalk Hill. My best friend at the time, dearly departed, was friends with Fred Furth who built the Estate. Fred was an eccentric old coot. Kind of a cross between Thurston Howell III and Raymond Burr. Very matter of fact but also very flamboyant/braggadocious. He almost always had his Great Dane at his side and a large Cuban C... Complex, earthy, and gently herbal on the nose with attractive cocoa, sassafras, and almost orange blossom-like notes over a base of mulberry, black currant and blueberry fruit. Five Star bold, smooth, elegant and alive on the palate as well as the nose. This well balanced complex wine was opened last month as a 65th birthday gift. • We loved how intimate this winery was, to be honest we fell upon it accidently. The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon was a treat, full of flavor – berry, chocolate and spice. Can’t wait to go back and stock up on their port, produced in small batches each year this is a great addition to any cellar.

Honestly I liked the flavor, but it grew more pleasing as I took time to really let the flavors work. Also, a couple from Napa came in to pick up their yearly shipment and they raved about the Cab Franc. So you could say I was influenced by their excitement probably more than the wine itself. Still, a solid purchase and a nice discussion piece d... Read More
