R.H. Phillips Winery, nestled in the Dunnigan Hills northwest of of Sacremento, was founded in 1983 by brothers Karl and John Giguiere along with John’s wife Lane.  Twenty-eight years later the Giguiere’s continue to produce quality wine with the help of winemakers Blake Kuhn and Owen Smith. Known for their Toasted Head brand wines, the winery sits on 1,700 acres and is a favorite site for weddings and other special events.

    Snoothrank:

One of my favorite wines. Medium bodied, fruity with just enough spice to make it a perfect glass for cool fall evenings. It has a unique flavor that I haven't found in any other wine. Read More

  • Toasted Head Chardonnay Chardonnay 2009

    Snoothrank:

On sale for $10 at the local grocery wine bin. Not as overoaked as I remember Toasted Head, but lacking the kind of lovely fruit I look for in California chardonnay. Overall, cannot recommend at the usual price, but OK at $10. Read More

  • Toasted Head Chardonnay Chardonnay 2009

    Snoothrank:

Paler than the aroma and flavor indicates. Smells like amazing oaky buttery goodness. Flavor is incredibly intense, almost too intense. All the flavors the winemaker says may be in there, but to me it tastes like a slap-you-in-the-face chardonnay. Very yummy and very demanding on the palate. Read More

  • Toasted Head Chardonnay Chardonnay 2009

    Snoothrank:

Very toasty indeed with a nice creamy accent. To tell the truth, my first impression was that it was fake oak, but the winery claims 100% barrel-aged sur lie and batonage. It's just very oaky, but more in a good way than most super oaky chardannays, where the "oak chip" treatment is obvious. If you want a full-bodied chardonnay with a nice cr... Read More

  • Toasted Head Chardonnay Chardonnay 2009

    Snoothrank:

I thoroughly enjoy this Chardonnay. It has a wonderful flavor, nice full body and seems to hit the spot. This is a great wine to sip on a cold day. I am actually bundled inside for a hard freeze and this is the perfect wine for the occasion! I definitely think this wine is priced affordably for what you get and I absolutely love it! It's now on ... Read More
