Qupé is dedicated to producing handcrafted Rhône varietals and Chardonnay from California’s Central Coast. We employ traditional winemaking techniques to make wines that are true to type and speak of their vineyard sources. Our goal is to make wines with impeccable balance that can be enjoyed in their youth, yet because of the good acidity from cool vineyard sites can also benefit from ageing. We are committed to sourcing grapes from some of the best and most prestigious vineyards in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

  • Qupe Syrah Bien Nacido Hillside Estate 2012

Murky plum color in the glass. Similar "murky" nose--it smells old, not funky, old. E x t r e m l y mild fruit on entry. Dried fruit, but not sweet, at all. Some salinity. Some tartness. Tannins are completely resolved. An unusual, but completely enjoyable wine. Read More

  • Qupe Chardonnay Y Block Santa Barbara County 2014

Old world in style, shy on the nose, nice acidity with a tannin free finish. Reminds me of Macon Villages and at the same price point. On the second day this wine developed a more fruit forward nose and a tropical palate as well as a little butter. Nice wine, I recommend it. Read More

  • Emark - you're right to a large extent, and there's a LOT of swill in ... some great wines around - Qupe Central Coast for example, is an excellent Syrah. I get it for $12.99. Out east it's over $20. The Chateau St. Michelle lineup from WA is usually good and there are a few other producers up there who are OK, but there's also a lot of crap.O... Read More

  • Sometimes we get used to paying upwards of $100 for a nice bottle of wine from the wine shop.  Those are the 'good days' that we want to remember, but soon you notice your bank account is dropping faster than Trumps approval rating, so you start looking for more value-oriented wines that are tasty in their own right. This topic is all about value... • That's what I was thinking. The Egurens sold Termanthia for $35M 10 years ago. Qupe sold for $35M about the same time.Meiomi sold for $300M a year ago. Clos des Lambrays sold for $100m euros in 2014.And as mentioned, Kroenke made his Burgundy buy recently. Supposedly Grand Cru vineyards are over 4M euros per hectare and Martray has 11 hectares b... Same friend from the Netherlands who GregT and I tasted with in San Diego. • It may be the grape that promises most and delivers least. Always a nice floral ... satisfying versions from CA. Qupe is another that comes to mind - I was visiting them about a year ago and they had some bottles left from an older vintage. I tried it and took them al Read More

Forum post in the topic Viognier Virgin

  • Wowzer,Just tasted my first Viognier and what a delight. I purchased one that was extremely economical but one with respectability in it's ratings. I didn't want to go overboard on my first venture with a newbie. This one averaged 3 and a half out of 5 here at Snooth. I'm sure it's well known, it's called McManis Family Vineyards out of Ripon Cal... Read More

  • Qupe Central Coast Syrah 2012

Not to bad - more of the softer syrah style, black and blue fruits and aromas with gamey notes, peppery tones, chocolate and herbs. Nice finish of moderate length equals pleasurable drinking. Drink now - Paul. 88 points Read More
