Qupé is dedicated to producing handcrafted Rhône varietals and Chardonnay from California’s Central Coast. We employ traditional winemaking techniques to make wines that are true to type and speak of their vineyard sources. Our goal is to make wines with impeccable balance that can be enjoyed in their youth, yet because of the good acidity from cool vineyard sites can also benefit from ageing. We are committed to sourcing grapes from some of the best and most prestigious vineyards in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

  • Qupe Syrah Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard 2009

    Snoothrank:

Very interesting nosesomewhat earthy, somewhat vegetative, maybe something like cut grass. Fairly delicate on the tip of the tongue. Some cherry/berry flavors. Nice firm acid. Very tame tannins. My feeling is that this is not a long-ager. A good wine now, but no need to allocate storage space for this one. Read More

  • Sonoma doesn't have a ton, but many Central Coast wineries make it as a ... Roar, Jaffurs all do one and Qupe does a few.  Then there's Bonterra in Mendo, Cristom in OR, Darioush and Joseph Phelps in Napa. K&L has a bunch more. I saw another half dozen from wineries like Curtis, Fess Parker,  Ojai, etc.  There is a world outside Sonoma, and it... Read More

  • Umm, I haven't really bought any wine aside from group bottles at ... Glad ... Glad you nailed it on the Qupe Viognier at least. And I eased back into the states by drinking one bottle of Pierre Paillard grower Champagne (yeasty but good), two 2004 Brunelli (Corte Pavone and Poggio di Salvo), and a 2011 Barbera. After the trip and in anticipati... Read More

  • Most recently some horrible Zin. I knew the name from years ago and decided to ... to ... closeout Viognier at Qupe's winery, along with some of their Syrah. Viognier is usually the most disappointing white grape around - beautiful nose promising so much, and then failing to deliver anything. Well, Qupe got it right just like they get so many... • Qupe Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard 2007

    Snoothrank:

Y'know, this one may be the reasons that a lot of people don't care for Central Coast Syrahs. In the initial tastes, it has a lot of "viney" flavor that is going to turn off a lot of people. Then you get a sour taste--and not the nice acid tartness that I like to get--a "this is just too old" sourness. After a few minutes (of air or me adapti... Read More
