Qupé is dedicated to producing handcrafted Rhône varietals and Chardonnay from California’s Central Coast. We employ traditional winemaking techniques to make wines that are true to type and speak of their vineyard sources. Our goal is to make wines with impeccable balance that can be enjoyed in their youth, yet because of the good acidity from cool vineyard sites can also benefit from ageing. We are committed to sourcing grapes from some of the best and most prestigious vineyards in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

Qupé on Snooth

  • That's what I was thinking. The Egurens sold Termanthia for $35M 10 years ago. Qupe sold for $35M about the same time.Meiomi sold for $300M a year ago. Clos des Lambrays sold for $100m euros in 2014.And as mentioned, Kroenke made his Burgundy buy recently. Supposedly Grand Cru vineyards are over 4M euros per hectare and Martray has 11 hectares b... • My big day mixing in the wine world as I've kind of helped break this news, owing to a friend of mine who is close to Laurent Ponsot. Same friend from the Netherlands who GregT and I tasted with in San Diego. Anyhow, Peter from WS contacted me this morning for info and I was able to speak with him right after he spoke to Laurent and before the s... Read More

  • It may be the grape that promises most and delivers least. Always a nice floral ... satisfying versions from CA. Qupe is another that comes to mind - I was visiting them about a year ago and they had some bottles left from an older vintage. I tried it and took them al Read More

  • Wowzer,Just tasted my first Viognier and what a delight. I purchased one that was extremely economical but one with respectability in it's ratings. I didn't want to go overboard on my first venture with a newbie. This one averaged 3 and a half out of 5 here at Snooth. I'm sure it's well known, it's called McManis Family Vineyards out of Ripon Cal... Read More

  • Qupe Central Coast Syrah 2012

    Snoothrank:

Not to bad - more of the softer syrah style, black and blue fruits and aromas with gamey notes, peppery tones, chocolate and herbs. Nice finish of moderate length equals pleasurable drinking. Drink now - Paul. 88 points Read More

  • Last night we drank a Lafond Syrah SRH from (duh!) the Santa Rita HIlls.  ... ... (I'm leaving out Qupe, which has disappointed me recently for other reasons, but isn't overly sweet-tasting.)  This is balanced with tannins, some savory notes of smoky meat, good acid, and still that dark plum/blackberry kind of flavor and smell.  But less of t... • Vinovino - that Qupe is pretty good. So is their Viognier. Actually, I think their Viognier is one of the best I've had anywhere - but it's a low bar.As far as the Baga goes, a few years ago I had dinner with Luis Pato, who's kind of like the world ambassador for Baga. It's an interesting grape. Kind of like Bobal or Kadarka or back in the day, ... Read More

  • Qupe Marsanne 2008

    Snoothrank:

This is just an excellent bottle of Santa Ynez Marsanne/Roussanne from Qupe. The nose is very distinctive, floral and reminiscent of freshly peeled clementine. For an '08 white, this is still very much alive and vibrant. Layers of orange zest, orange marmalade, apricot, ripe peach and a touch of salinity mix with medium plus acidity. Read More
