Since 1999, Quinta de Ventozelo belongs to the Spanish group Proinsa. The property is located in the town of São João da Pesqueira, in the Upper Corgo, an ideal place in the heart of the Demarcated Region of the Douro, on the left bank of the river, overlooking the Pinhão Valley. The vineyard area covers 200 Ha., all of it classified with the letter "A" (highest ranking). About 10 Ha. The vinification of the Port wine still takes place in our traditional lagares (tanks made of stone) where grapes are foot crushed, providing Quinta de Ventozelo with a wide range of quality wines. Very nice "typical" Douro blend...60% Touriga Nacional, 20% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Roriz; dark purple, zingy acidity, moderate tanins, and very pleasant to drink by itself or with food that has substance...oak notes are restrained allowing the fruit to shine Read More

  • Quinta de Ventozelo Douro DOC Reserva 2009

Quite dark in the glass, and with the nose--sharp somewhat chemically--this one looks like a brute. On the palate, though, those thoughts diminish. It's quite easy going on the initial entry. Not terribly fruity and it flows easily over the tongue. Then on the sides and back of the tongue the tannin hits along with some heat. Suddenly, we'r... Read More

  • Quinta de Ventozelo Vinho DOC Touriga Franca Tinto 2004

91 points. The first thing I notice about its aroma is how multilayered and complex it is. Its rich and almost jammy, with deep spicy aromas, Cameroon cigar leaves, and volcanic stone. Theres something like strawberry rhubarb pie, black currant scones, and the faintest touch of lavender and rosewood. Its immediately delicate and soft on the palate... Read More
