Quinta de la Rosa

The Bergqvist family have been making port since 1815. Quinta de la Rosa was given as a christening present for Claire Feuheerd, Sophia's grandmother, in 1906. The family port shipping company, Feueheerd, was sold in the 1930s but La Rosa was kept and run by Sophia's grandmother, Claire. In 1988 Sophia and her father, Tim Bergqvist, decided to restart the family business and launched Quinta de la Rosa as a top quality port producer onto the market place. Starting in the early 1990s, the Bergqvist family were one of the pioneers in taking red wine production in the Douro region seriously. Quinta de la Rosa's red wine has won many accolades in the press and is sold in many prestigious restaurants and wine stores around the world. For the last 5 years, the Bergqvist family has also been making their Vale da Clara wine, buying in carefully selected grapes from nearby properties. The wine differs distinctly from the La Rosa wine produced - it has more fruit and less oak flavors.

Quinta de la Rosa on Snooth

  • Quinta de la Rosa Dourosa Douro 2012

    Snoothrank:

Dry and fresh, with savory beef jerky and poppy seed aromas mixed with ripe pear and cherry - very interesting opening for a white wine. The palate is more classic, showing peach pit and apricot flavors, pencil shavings and tart minerality. The dried fruit flavors are well integrated with acidity here, making for an interesting wine without bein... Read More

  • Quinta de la Rosa Passagem Reserva 2011

    Snoothrank:

Hottest dried part of the Douro Powerful balsamic, animal and gamy aromas are well balanced by nutty, chocolate oak notes on the nose. This shows power and elegance in a vibrant style even if the fruit does have a decidedly roasted edge. Textural this is quite fine, bright, juicy and transparent, it is a big ass wine streaked with medicinal, bal... Read More

  • Quinta de la Rosa la Rosa 2011

    Snoothrank:

60% old vine vineyard field lend, 40% Touriga nacional Smokey and fairly oaky on the nose with a nutty and expensive aroma. A big wine on entry, round and rolls into the mouth like the changing tide. There are great acids supporting a bright juicy bramble berry punch on entry followed by lots of tannin, dry and a little stern on the palate, tho... Read More

  • Quinta de la Rosa Red Blend Douro 2007

    Snoothrank:

This is strawberryish on the nose, with maybe a little leather and meatyness. Oaky smelling. Nice balance between acid and tannin. Fruity tasting with a little heat on the back end. Would go nicely with food, I think. Read More
