Quinta de la Rosa
The Bergqvist family have been making port since 1815. Quinta de la Rosa was given as a christening present for Claire Feuheerd, Sophia's grandmother, in 1906. The family port shipping company, Feueheerd, was sold in the 1930s but La Rosa was kept and run by Sophia's grandmother, Claire. In 1988 Sophia and her father, Tim Bergqvist, decided to restart the family business and launched Quinta de la Rosa as a top quality port producer onto the market place. Starting in the early 1990s, the Bergqvist family were one of the pioneers in taking red wine production in the Douro region seriously. Quinta de la Rosa's red wine has won many accolades in the press and is sold in many prestigious restaurants and wine stores around the world. For the last 5 years, the Bergqvist family has also been making their Vale da Clara wine, buying in carefully selected grapes from nearby properties. The wine differs distinctly from the La Rosa wine produced - it has more fruit and less oak flavors.

Quinta de la Rosa Red Blend Douro 2007
Snoothrank:
Dark and fruity on the nose with luscious dark chocolate accents and lovely smoke, dried herb and toasted spice top notes. This enters the mouth with a certain elegance, delivering rich fruit flavors that are fresh and precise with layers of leather, dried herb and mineral accents adding complexity. The tannins here are ripe and polished, making... Read More

Plum and cigar notes on the nose, as well as vanilla and herbal tones. The oak qualities are somewhat smokey. The attack shows strong red fruit, with strawberry mid-palate and into the finish. Read More

Quinta de la Rosa Red Blend Douro 2007

This is strawberryish on the nose, with maybe a little leather and meatyness. Oaky smelling. Nice balance between acid and tannin. Fruity tasting with a little heat on the back end. Would go nicely with food, I think. Read More
