Purple Moon Winery

About  Purple Moon Shiraz:

The first bottle we tried, we could not believe how good the wine was for the price. We tried a couple more bottles, one of them was not good. We decided that was freakish so we bought 5 more bottles. Big mistake. Out of those, only one was good, the rest of them were not drinkable , I am being charitable. We read many negative reviews on this wine, but we didn't believe them because the first couple of bottles were so good. Mystery solved.

The lesson here is, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!" What is worse than a bad wine is an inconsistent wine that yanks your chains. Lesson well learned.

  • I agree with Snoother 2238420. I do not like the change from the screw top to the cork (so hard to get the cork back in). The screw top brought back memories of drinking the New Zealand crisp whites.

  • I do not like the change from screw top to cork on your chardonnay. It's regressive

  • I bought the chardonnay & liked it BUT, I hate that there's no cork, and I cut my finger on the sharp metal lid. Not happy! I play guitar so all my digits!!

  • For Thanksgiving, Trader Joe's has the Purple Moon Shiraz and Chardonnary available - doesn't say what vintage or give any other information so I don't know if these are the ones mentioned on here or not. I was reading the reviews -- the Shiraz is described as "soft, full-bodied with notes of blueberry, blackberry and a lingering plum-spiced fin...

Overall, you could do a lot worse than $4 for this. Value-wise it really does deliver. I like the higher tannin and acidity level than one would expect for a CA merlot (especially one that costs $4). Fruit, oak, some spice, and a longer finish than $4 wines usually produce. Read More

  • The discussion about "natural wine" Vs "industrial wine" is really hot in Italy. After hundred of posts, articles and discussion i can resume my opinion: 1) i like good wines, 2) i don't like bad wines, i can just add i particulary love territorial good wines.Too much simple? There's some hot discussion around and not for all the issue is so simp... Tasted like concentrated green pepper juice, mixed with glass cleaner. This wine was terrible. I bought from Trader Joes while on vacation, since we dont have them in Utah. This wine got some decent reviews, so I figured why not. My wife got sick, and I had to spit the wine out. Not sure if it was just a bad bottle, or this is how they all taste... Read More
