Our inaugural release, Provenance Vineyards 1999 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon, established the winery's style: an elegant yet powerful richness with deep, intense flavors that reflect the vintage and vineyard. With the 2000 vintage we expanded our family of wines to include Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon and Napa Valley Merlot. Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc, our only white wine, made its debut with the 2003 vintage. In August 2002 we acquired the winery known formerly as Chateau Beaucanon, located on Highway 29, for our home in the heart of the Rutherford appellation. After extensive remodeling and refurbishing of the property, we opened our tasting room, featuring a floor made of staves from our own oak barrels, in October 2003.

I ran up to Napa for a few days to get away and taste some wines from places ... available. I trust the provenance of these and having recently had 03 and 05 vintages of Cosentino cab and merlot, these are steals! Get some. Well if you read this far, thank you. I hope you find the suggestions helpful. Cheer Read More

Aromas of black cherry, and blackberries dominate. The palate reveals flavors of mocha, anise, mineral, and smokiness mix with dark fruit that lingers into the finish. Structured tannins give the wine a firm backbone to handle grilled meats. Read More

With similar blends and provenance, its a shootout for Bordeaux style malbec-based wines between Cuvelier and Clos de los Siete. Cuvelier wins this round with a well-rounded, refined effort that offers cherry and plum flavors along with a touch of rose in the bouquet. (AV 87, http://argovino.com/?p=696) Read More

Yes, this is a sweet non-vintage sparkler with just 9% alcohol and grapes of uncertain provenance. Yes, the label recommends drinking it with ice and a lime wedge. But this wine is unusual in interesting ways, too. The nose mixes guava and kerosene, and sweet flavors of pineapple and dried pear are offset by a note of laundry detergent and a sur... Read More

An interesting article --http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/01/dining/kevin-pogue-seeks-washington-states-top-terroir.htmlI've yet to try any wines from Walla Walla -- simply not available here -- but keep reading about them. It's on my to-do list for if I ever visit the US. But it's particularly interesting to see they're taking terroir more seriou... Read More

I don't feel like iron is a proper wine descriptor but it is something that I recently perceived. The wine definitely was not flawed...it was actually DELICIOUS.Would this be considered as having good minerality? Come from mineral rich soils? It is a Sicilian red wine called Nerello Mascalese and I am not sure if this is a typical trait? I know ... Read More

Having just returned from a week in the valley, I'm working on pulling together some content focusing on Napa Cabernets. I started tasting through some of the samples I have in the office yesterday and just wanted to mention some of the better examples I found in the $20-$35 rangeTop of the heap is the 2009 Stepping Stone by Cornerstone $35, pre... Well, it's a momentous time for a couple of us snoothers. Hope OT doesn't mind me sharing that he made the Saxum list last week, while today I got my first offer to buy Shafer Hillside Select. Since I bought, I'm now on the list...think it was about a three year wait for each of us. So much for not buying wine until summer! Read More

This is a very decent CdR blanc with an obvious infusion of more stylish ... ... ... of (relatively) modest provenance, the nose is dominated by ginger and spice (viognier) and the entry is again viognier dominant with hard aromatics like angostura but with muted aggresion (non hostilis). Not the white CdP a local self-appointed magister has... Read More
