Founded in 1958, the priest of the village of Barbaresco, recognizing that the only way small properties could survive was by joining their efforts, gathered together nineteen small growers and founded the Produttori del Barbaresco. From its humble beginnings making the first three vintages in the church basement, Produttori del Barbaresco has grown to a 52 member co-operative with 250 acres of Nebbiolo vineyards in the Barbaresco appellation and an annual production of over 500,000 bottles. Its vineyards amount to almost 1/6 of the vineyards of the area. Each member is in full control of their land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with the skill and dedication they have honed over generations.

Playing a key role in elevating the quality level of Barbaresco over the years, Produttori del Barbaresco produces a simpler Nebbiolo Langhe, a Barbaresco blend and nine single vineyard wines produces in premier vineyards: Asili, Rabajà, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Pajè, Montefico, Muncagota and Rio Sordo.

Produttori del Barbaresco on Snooth

  • Last night got a little serious. Started out simply enough with just me and a ... house chard and a bottle of Produttori del Barbaresco Langhe nebbiolo--always a reasoned and satisfying choice when there's no intention of getting too serious with the wine imbibing. Then the main importer of wines into Japan from San Marino showed up. • Produttori del Barbaresco Nebbiolo Langhe 2010

    Snoothrank:

So, here we are, with this affordable Nebbiolo. Clear, translucent ruby colour in the glass that reminded me of Pinot Noir or Beaujolais. This wine was softer and juicier than I expected. Notes of cherry with some raspberry and plum were dominant, although there were still slight leathery notes. More of the same on the palate, with some spice an... Read More

  • Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco 2009

    Snoothrank:

A lighter more elegant Barbaresco, hints of leather, cigar and blackcherry. All ... not short of enjoyable. The Produttori del Barbaresco 2009 displays character of a well balanced, age-able, 14.5% alc. nebbiolo. Earthy now but balanced and appreciated. I would love to taste this Barbaresco again in 2018. -William at Barol Read More

  • Maybe. The reason is that there's a heirarchy in Italy. Langhe is a DOC, or ... is still the co-op wine from Produttori del Barbaresco, which is one of the greatest co-op producers in the world in any region. They do a basic Nebbiolo, a basic Barbaresco, and then a number of vineyard-designated bottlings that start getting pretty expensive.Jon ... Read More

  • Not the case for Haut Brion, JD. They were living on past reputation far too ... ... will not go wrong with Produttori del Barbaresco. CT notes be damned--they need to be dosed with several leavenings of salt in most cases.  ;-)   To top it off, PdB's QPR is excellent. The thing to do is not to buy Ausone and the other ridiculously priced labe... • In getting together with some LA and OC wine folks yesterday, I brought along this 1961 Oddero Barolo to the party that also featured a '66 Lafite, and a '66 Haut Brion, among others. I had sourced this Barolo just last week as something to throw at the pair of old 1st growth wolves, and spice things up. Sitting here this morning, I can easily c... Read More

  • I truly do not understand the hype about this cooperative ... and, please, do not mistake me for a basher or your regular wine drinker with little knowledge about wines. Although I haven't tasted any older vintages, I did taste some of their Langhe Nebbiolo wines from 2007, 2008 and 2009. My professional opinion is that they lack fruitiness, the...
