Priam Vineyards sits in the Salmon River watershed area, just minutes from Mohegan Sun Casino, Moodus Resort area, The Goodspeed Opera House, and a number of state parks, as well as the Airline Hiking Trail. The seasonally beautiful surroundings of the area offer a number of outdoor activities from hiking, fishing, canoeing and golf, to horse-back riding and cross-country skiing.Priam Vineyards' 40 acre farm has 24 acres of grapes in production, with a breathtaking 35 mile view of the New England countryside. We benefit from the unique microclimate of the hills of New London County, just 15 miles from Long Island Sound, where we grow classic European varietals: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay, Riesling, Muscat and Merlot as well as French-American hybrids: Cayuga and St. Croix. The rich gravelly soil mimics that of Graves, France. Our climate is very similar to the Alsation region of Northern France and Germany. This combination along with the sloping hillside and constant Read more »

  • Priam Vineyards Red Blend Westchester Red NV

    Snoothrank:

Definitely sweeter than I would expect from a red, but such an incredible blend of cherry and chocolate with a smoky, oaky undertone, that I find myself turning to it again and again. A perfect "bridge" for friends who think they don't like red wine. Read More

  • Anyone know any wineries in Connecticut that are 'can't miss' stops? There's a list here, but I was wondering if there was anything unique and worth having a look at- particularly around Mystic & Foxwoods and/or near Lake Compounce.  (Boulderdash!) Tanks  Read More

  • Priam Vineyards St. Croix Pv NV

    Snoothrank:

The Reds concluded with the St. Croix, a medium-bodied red from 100% St. Croix grapes, the wine has lovely notes of cherry and blackberry in both the nose and the mouth. Aged for two-years in the barrel, there is a rich, but not overpowering, smokiness to the nose that helps give depth to the fruit notes. On the palate, the wine is smooth, wit... Read More

  • Priam Vineyards Late Harvest Riesling Blanc NV

    Snoothrank:

Slightly drier than the Essence of St. Croix, the Riesling has lovely notes of honey, peach and pear in both the nose and the mouth. A nice level of acidity lends a crispness to the wine which nicely balances the sweetness. I did like this wine, but not as much as the Essence of St. Croix, which I found to have a bit more depth and character. ... Read More

  • Salmon River Red NV

    Snoothrank:

The Tasting Notes describe this as a Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a medium-bodied wine with a lovely deep garnet color. The nose has a strong, sweet fruit nose - quite lovely. I detected notes of fruit, possibly blackberry, in the mouth, and there are distinct smoky notes from the oak. The fin... Read More

  • Priam Vineyards Red Blend Westchester Red NV

    Snoothrank:

A blend of Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon, Merlot, and St. Croix grapes, this is a semi-sweet, medium-bodied red table wine. Barrel-aged for two years, the nose has a nice smokiness that blends nicely with the fruit overtones. On the palate I detected notes of cherry and chocolate, although the chocolate is subtle, smoothing out the wine rather th... Read More

  • Priam Vineyards Red Blend Blackledge Rose NV

    Snoothrank:

A couple years ago, Gary Crump was approached by the Backus Hospital Breast Cancer Center, who asked him if hed consider creating a wine to benefit Breast Cancer research. Gary was up for the challenge, and decided on a Rosé for the pink color. The result is the Blackledge Rosé, a light-bodied, off-dry Rosé with lovely notes of Rasbperry in bo... Read More

  • Priam Vineyards White Blend Jeremy River White NV

    Snoothrank:

Named for another local river which feeds into the larger Salmon River, the Jeremy River White is a Riesling blend, the same blend as the Blackledge White but with a different yeast and lower temperature . The Jeremy River is a semi-sweet wine with notes of pineapple and citrus both on the nose and in the mouth. While interesting, I found this... Read More

  • Priam Vineyards Cayuga Blanc NV

    Snoothrank:

A light-yellow, dry white wine, it has similarities to a light pinot grigio. The nose has lovely fruit notes, and I particularly noticed tart notes of green apple. The wine is light and crisp with citrus notes and a touch of pear; the pear adds just a touch of smoothness and sweetness that keeps the wine from being tart. The tasting notes ind... Read More
