Arbios Cellars/Praxis Cellars is a small Sonoma County family wine business. Bill Arbios makes the wine; his wife, Susan handles much of the rest. Bill enjoyed a successful career with many prominent wineries over the last 35 years, but he felt somewhat restricted working for large wineries and yearned for his own roots. With the creation of Arbios Cellars in 1993 and Praxis Cellars in 2000, his dream of expressing his vision and creating something lasting was realized. Arbios Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is their flagship wine and the five Praxis wines are priced for more “every day” drinking.

  • I started this article thinking of pitting Washington State Merlot, arguably the state's most successful varietal wine, against those from California, and to an extent that is what I have done, at multiple price points between $20 and $40. But this exercise turned into something a bit more interesting. It illuminated a few of the basic tenets of... Read More

Leafy and sweet on the nose though in a fresh way. This is packed with wild cherry, plum and black currant fruit streaked with hints of espresso, earth, white pepper and a slight floral iris note. Bright and fresh on entry with real lift to the palate; theres lovely fresh plum and wild black cherry fruit along with a touch of vanilla and some es... Read More

  • It’s the holiday season and everyone is recommending Pinot Noir again. What is it with folks, do they just like to take the path of least resistance? Will there come a day when Pinot is not the end all of holiday wine recommendations? Probably not. Lambrusco and Blaufrankisch have a whole set of issues that will prevent them from ever garnering ... Read More

  • Praxis Pinot Noir 2010

A touch dull on the nose with meaty base notes, spicy blackberry pie fruit and hints of pine and raspberry emerging with air. This enters the mouth with real polish and more freshness than the nose promises. The fruit has a lovely woodsy edge to it with slightly brambly blackberry and an undercurrent of strawberry and lovely, nuanced herb and sp... Read More

  • Praxis Cellars Merlot 2009

This is darkly earthy on the nose with a fudgy quality that frames the plummy fruit. Air brings out lovely accent notes of eucalyptus. Nice and fairly bright on entry, this has a bit of a rugged feel to it, deep and a bit dark on the palate with some obvious tannins adding texture in the mouth. The fruit is darkly cherried in the mouth with eart... Read More
