The Winery Pietra Santa and its History Pietra Santa is a family-run estate producing artisanal wines and olive oils in California’s Central Coast. The site was planted to winegrapes in the 1850s by Frenchman Theophile Vache who chose the location because of the maritime climate and unique soils. Pietra Santa is 25 miles from Monterey Bay and benefits from cool coastal breezes that allow for a long growing season. The estate’s location on the San Andreas Fault creates soils rich with granite and limestone that naturally lower yields and add distinctive flavors to the wines. The winery was named PIETRA SANTA, Italian for SACRED STONE, in honor of these exceptional soils. In 2005, the property was purchased by the Blackburns, a family dedicated to preserving and building upon this magnificent winemaking history. – Description from JelaDragoljevic

  • We concluded our Cabernet GTi this past Friday with a small gathering of the faithful. Admittedly scheduling, or rather rescheduling, this PTP tasting for a Friday caused conflict with many attendees calendars but the show must go on so with sporadic assistance from some of my fellow Snooth employees we managed to slog through a reduced roster o... • Pietra Santa Cabernet Sauvignon Cienega Valley Signature Collection 2003

    Snoothrank:

hot on the nose but also intense with a bit of fudginess, sandy, soil, mineral tones, a bit of an herbal and black olive background, with a fresh, unsweetened yet jammy quality about the fruit which leans towards cranberry and black cherry , tobacco- very fresh in the mouth, bright and very well balanced with plenty of tannin but all well drape... • Pietra Santa Sangiovese Cienega Valley 2005

    Snoothrank:

Funky dirty, rustic nose. The taste is dark and sharp, full of spice and oak and leather. The tannins are quite well structured, and in balance with the dark fruit flavors, there's a bit of rubber and tar and a good bit of acidity. The aromas might be more interesting than the palate, but it's a solid, interesting wine. Read More
