We planted our first vines up here at 2000 feet near the top of Spring Mountain in the Napa Valley in 1981. Those phylloxera vulnerable rootstocks have now gone, replanted in the early nineties. Our first wines were Cabernet and Sauvignon blanc in 1983, but we have now concentrated our efforts on a very ageworthy Margaux-type blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet franc and Petit Verdot, all grown here on the 25 acre parcel where we live. “Estate Bottled” is an important definition for us, meaning that we grow all the grapes on land we own and make and bottle the wine here with our own workers, totally free from outside influences. There are three owners, Birgitta and Philip Togni, recently joined by their daughter Lisa. Birgitta specializes in the vineyard. Philip is a former student of Emile Peynaud at the University of Bordeaux where he earned the Diplôme National d’Oenologie many years ago while working as assistant Régisseur at Château Lascombes. Lisa, holding an MBA, with a background Read more »

  • Philip Togni Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District 2009

Philip Togni makes some of Napa's most elegant Cabernet Sauvignon. This is mountain fruit, so there is a fine dance between the generous fruit and the ripe tannins and supporting acidity. It's quite a waltz. Read More

  • Ca'Togni Napa Valley Sweet 2004

What the heck is Muscat Hamburg (Black Hamburgh) you ask? Well as a relative to Muscat Blanc (Moscato) it's a very aromatic and flavorful grape and one that deserves to be planted more often. If you've had his Cabs you might not think of Togni as opulent but this wine sure is. Reminiscent of a Beerenauslese or Ice Wine, it is rich and decande... Read More

  • Philip Togni Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District 2007

As always Togni has made a wine for the ages, that is to say a wine that will have serious aging potential however this vintage is significantly more accessible (with significant decanting time) than many of his previous offerings. As per usual we encounter massive tannins but very well integrated. Briary, cassis, huckleberry, and blackberry wit... Read More

  • Philip Togni Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

As with other '06 Spring Mountain Cabs this is one tannic beast but they are already beginning to soften after 5 years. This wine still has lots of ageability left. On the nose is cedar and spice box with currants and crushed figs. The palette is dense with fruit up front quickly giving way to hints of earth, tobacco and oak. Togni is easily... Read More
