Distinctive wines come from outstanding grapes that are limited to certain unique sites and microclimates. Grapes from these sources do not require a lot of manipulation and have the greatest potential to produce exciting and memorable wines. I have the good fortune to work with some of the best growers anywhere whose goal is to provide me with the highest quality fruit possible. Doug Hill’s and Jim Fore’s Stewart Vineyard in Carneros is my source for Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot. Truchard Vineyards, also in Carneros, provides me with Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. I get Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel from Rancho Chimiles, and Brandlin Vineyard on Mount Veeder is my single vineyard for old-vine Zinfandel. – Description from dvoristanac

  • Peter Franus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2002

    Snoothrank:

Lately, Ive been on a pretty good streak of wines that do not fill my mouth with berry fruit. This wine does show cabernet cassis on entry, but fruit is not what this wine is all about. Strong acid and tannin backbone dominate over the delicate fruit flavors. Viney on the back of the palate. Long, lingering aftertaste where harshness is forg... Read More

  • Peter Franus Zinfandel Mt. Veeder Brandlin Vineyard 2008

    Snoothrank:

This is my first Peter Franus wine and was a great experience. The wine won Best Zinfandel of 2008 in Wine and Spirits. Blueberry and lots of Indian spices on the nose. Dark ruby in color. Beautiful textured blueberry fruits thickly coated with a load of spices and smoky tobacco. Spicy McSpicy here. Great finish. Great wine. Read More

  • Peter Franus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2005

    Snoothrank:

We first enjoyed this wine at the new Colicchio & Sons. Great spicy nose, with flavors of black cherry, cassis, and vanilla. It was the perfect accompaniment to several dishes including the gnocchi with chestnuts, bone marrow & black truffle, the roasted foie gras with lady apples & sassafras root, and the veal breast with tripe, puntarelle & tr... • Peter Franus Napa Zin 2007

    Snoothrank:

This is such a great Californian Zinfandel! One of the few I have tasted lately ... ... as Turley and Seghesio. Peter Franus started up the Peter Franus Wine Company in 1991 after he was the wine maker for Mount Veeder Winery for a number of years. Produced from 92% Zinfandel grapes from the Brandlin Vineyard in Mount Veeder along with a splas... Read More

  • Peter Franus Zinfandel Mt. Veeder Brandlin Vineyard 2005

    Snoothrank:

Peter Franus 2007- Brandlin Vineyard Mount Veeder Zinfandel is an ashtonishing accomplishment and a great value. Big, bold and well structured; it shows aromas of dry raisins, black cherries, lavender and rosemary. It's a full body, silky, glycerin-like textured wine with soft tannins and a very long finish. A bit high in alcohol but very well r... Read More
