The Black Chook Shiraz (NV)
| Winery: | Penny's Hill |
| Region: | Australia |
| Varietal: | Syrah |
| Type: | Sparkling Wines |
From its first production of 141 cases of 1995 Shiraz, Penny's Hill has established a fine reputation for outstanding vineyards from which acclaimed wines have emerged. Very much a part of the recent McLaren Vale landscape, the Penny's Hill story commenced over twenty years ago. From its beginnings on bare grazing land upon which cows and sheep had long trod, the brand is now reflected in some of the very best quality vineyards in the region, fine full-bodied wines which are sold to loyal and appreciative wine lovers not only locally but in all discerning export markets, and a cellar door and restaurant complex recognised nationally for its excellence of food and service, for its iconic location and for its direct links to the farming traditions of the greater region. Welcome to Penny's Hill and its unique story.

I have been eyeing them for a while and wondered if anyone here has opened them recently and cared to share their thoughts on whether they are worth the $100 or so it would cost to acquire them. Thanks in advance. I had had the Don Luciano Chardonnay and it was OK, but the Shiraz I had smelled like road kill (very heavy sulfur)--I wonder if I got a bad bottle. Has anyone else tried it? Read More

Chardonnay ($29.99). Now generally spea... Read More
