  • It being earth day tomorrow I thought this would be a fine time to explore attitude towards the whole organic/natural/biodynamic movement. I reached out to some wine professionals to get their opinions about these wines, but before I turn the stage over to them I’d like to explore the situation briefly. Before we consider the value of these wines... • The truth is that I don’t drink very much Cabernet these days, opting instead for other wines that fit my lifestyle a bit better. It’s not that I don’t like Cabernet. In fact I can honestly say that I still love Cabernet, though that love is mostly satisfied by older examples from California and some newer releases from places like South Africa. ... • Paul Dolan Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Mendocino County 2010

    Snoothrank:

Subtle and earthy on the nose with a hint of funk lated under clay earth, white pepper, dried herb and soft, red fruit aromas. Soft and broad on entry with a feel that is at once relaxed and yet firm, underpinned with nice, slightly angular and dry tannins. The fruit is a bit rusty, red in the currant and raspberry end of the spectrum and framed... Read More

  • It’s a great thing when things just come together. Earlier this year I had planned a trip to California to do some tasting but it had to be postponed. When I went to reschedule I noticed a thread in the Snooth Forum  that was looking for people to join in a West Coast Pinot Noir Throw Down. I wasn’t sure what exactly that entailed but I am alway... • Paul Dolan Vineyards Pinot Noir 2011

    Snoothrank:

Organically grownFunky, earthy and deep on the nose with gently spicy, creamy root beer, cream soda accents to the light black raspberry and Italian plum aromas. Rich and zesty in the mouth with brilliant acids that set off the wild raspberry and cranberry fruit in the mouth. Rich with soft tannins, this gains an attractive fleshiness in the mou... Read More

  • Paul Dolan Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2011

    Snoothrank:

Reticent on the nose with faint lemon oil and crab apple aromas. Broad and transparent in the mouth, this shows some lovely tart peach flavors framed with creamy key lime notes. A bit short though with a nice cleansing mineral note on the finish, this is easy to drink and well made though it does lack some intensity. In truth a bit of time in th... Read More

  • Paul Dolan Vineyards Zinfandel 2009

    Snoothrank:

Everything you could ever want out of a zinfandel. Great full creamy mouthfeel. Nice oak and sweetness. Part of my dinner with this was black pepper and potato pierogies which really countered the pepper of this wine and gave this some extra sweetness. Same quality as any Ridge Zinfandel at $5 less.
