The West Coast's only ocean-side winery was bonded in 1988 by winemaker-proprietor Sally Ottoson, a Mendocino County native but also a Napa Valley runaway. Sally started in the wine business in Napa Valley in 1973, managing the valley's first wine bar. The winemaking bug hit her hard and she bonded her first winery there, Star Hill, in 1978. The abundance and variety of top-quality grapes that she found in Mendocino County led her to this spot where she founded Pacific Star. They have  nightly wine tastings and wine gatherings. Also scheduled in the trip is a days excursion to the Napa Valley via bus stopping at 5 different vineyards. I have always loved Napa Valley Cabe... Read More

  • Hi all! I've recently posted three different lists of organic wines. Since I'm really interested in organic and biodynamic farming, I'd love to hear your tips on favorite wines in these categories. Is there anything you think I should taste? Also, it tends to be a topic on which people have strong opinions. What is yours? What do you think about... Read More

  • Seeing some of the wines rated by Snooth certainly excites the palate but mostly to no avail because these wines are not available locally.  Washington State (where I live) will have a proposition on the upcoming ballots that will put beer, wine and hard stuff where it belongs, on the free retail market.  Currently we have government stores for ... • Pacific Star Red Blend Mendocino County Charbera 2003

A very well balanced and integrated wine not unlike a lighter Bordeaux Premier Cru or a lighter Super Tuscan. While fruitful this is not a fruit bomb, not sweet. Nose of floral, fruit, leather, earth, and a hint of green vegetal. In the mouth significant layers of ripe sour red raspberry and cherry and red and black plum bound together with l... Read More
