Old Stone Winery was founded in 2001 by Mark, Barbara and Marcus Brown. In the summer of 2009, Darin and Naomi Griffin purchased it after years of enjoying wine. Our love of wine started in Germany, as we spent 4 years living less than an hour outside the Rheingau region. Our day trips into the Rheingau, and the summer wine festivals had a lasting impression that we couldn’t resist. Darin spent eight years as an OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army. Having commanded in combat and served everywhere from Germany, to Kosovo, to Iraq, he decided to hang up his cavalry spurs in 2004 and pursue a more stable career with GE. Moving to Charlotte in the summer of 2004, Darin joined GE Plastics and embarked on a career in supply chain/operations management. After five years in the plastics industry, he decided that wine was much more interesting. Naomi also spent eight years in the U.S. Army, as a Nuclear-Biological-Chemical warfare defense officer.
