Old Stone Winery was founded in 2001 by Mark, Barbara and Marcus Brown. In the summer of 2009, Darin and Naomi Griffin purchased it after years of enjoying wine. • Rimmerman's bombast has been known to turn off more than a few readers, but I've had some success with his offerings in the past. This is one that caught my interest in the past day, because the backstory about Beaujolais is something I've thought for decades. Beaujolais truly is, i believe, the flipside of Burgundy, so without it one's perspect... Read More

  • Friuli (or more properly Friuli Venezia Giulia) lies in Italy’s northeastern corner. Protected from the northern winds by the Austrian and Slovenian Alps, Friuli’s climate is tempered by the Adriatic. The winemakers of this area have a reputation of being forward thinking and producing excellent white wines -- reds account for just under 40%. Tr... Read More

  • Ian Cauble often has interesting wines at his Somm Select site. Today's offering really hit home for me, since I've had it several times locally, and have hiked, climbed, driven, dived, sailed and boated the coast he describes many times before. Fell in love with the area, including Furore (named after the 'furor' of the waves on the rocks), lon... Read More

  • I began my wine journey mining for hidden gems in little known regions along the east coast of the United States. A common response to many of the wines I shared and wrote about back then went something like this; “What, they make wine there?” In fact, wine is produced in all 50 states, but many people can count on one hand the wines they have t... • In a world where extremes are becoming the paradigms for perfection its a little surprising that one doesn’t hear much of the wines of Saxony. Strike that. One doesn’t hear anything about these wines. And that is not surprising because the production is tiny and the wines almost all consumed locally. But you should be hearing about these wines, ...
