Oberon Wines

As a third-generation winemaker and Napa Valley native, Rob Mondavi, Jr. has always understood that the region is uniquely suited for growing classic Bordeaux varieties. With the Oberon label - originally named for the eponymous king in Shakespeare's winsome comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream - he has created high-quality Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc to be enjoyed every day. Rob and fellow winemaker, Tony Coltrin, select Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc grapes from some of Napa Valley's finest vineyards in Oakville, Rutherford, Stags Leap and other emerging sub-appellations. The climate of these regions - warm days and cool evenings - yields grapes with the perfect balance of ripe fruit flavors and natural acidity. Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, with deep, rich color and concentrated black fruit character. Oberon Merlot is wonderfully complex, with notes of blueberry and chocolate - perfect for enjoying around Read more »

Oberon Wines on Snooth

  • Here's a great way to enjoy your grocery shopping trip (Wegmans near Potomac Mills in Virginia) - stop by a nice wine bar for an early dinner before heading over to buy enough food to get you through another week.  This afternoon, after watching our grand kids for about 3.5 hours, we dined at the Travinia Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar.  They had a ... • Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2010

    Snoothrank:

Rather sweeter than expected and very tight. Definitely benefits from some decanting. Long finish and clean berry flavors. There are other cabs out there for less $$ that taste as good. Perhaps another year in the cellar might make it stand out. Read More

  • Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2010

    Snoothrank:

Tannic. More Europen in style and on the nose. A bit too much in the oak for more tastes. This was also the case with the 2009. It did open up nicely after about an hour. Cheers! Read More

  • Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2010

    Snoothrank:

A little firm and meaty on the nose with very tight notes of eucalyptus, tobacco, bitter chocolate, violet and black pepper over hints of black currant. This is really very tight but you can see the fine balance here as this is already seamless with subtle complexity in the mouth. Everything is a bit low key but present with fine blackberry and ... • Oberon Merlot 2009

    Snoothrank:

Interesting....The Syrah does indeed add some spice to this Merlot. It's very different and quite a bit tannic on the finish. I didn't love it, but it was decent. For the money, the 2005 Oberon Merlot was the best Oberon Merlot I've ever had. Grab one if you can find it. It's wonderful! Read More
