The winery site is one of the most attractive in the South Okanagan with outstanding views in a setting of natural beauty. Situated on a bench overlooking the shores of Osoyoos Lake, the site is adjacent to a tract of natural desert land while the newly planted vineyards and orchards provide a stunning contrast. The Band shares its history and traditions with those who visit the winery. Tour experiences at the winery are enhanced through the architecture, designed and constructed to display native art and artifacts, and enhance the beauty and unique nature of the wild sage desert surroundings. From the early years of ranching, trading and small farms, the people of the Osoyoos Indian Band have continued to change with the times. The Band has a long history of growing grapes and owns 230 acres at the Inkameep Vineyard that were first planted in 1968. Under the expertise of trained viticulturalist Sam Baptise, new varieties are being planted each year to meet current market demands. Currently, Inkameep Read more »

  • So on a whim we decided to visit British Columbia. But we flew up to Washington, so visited a few places there too. Totally off the subject of wine, I found an awesome bakery in Spokane and the girl there served me this thing that I thought was a kind of Parmesan cheese foam. In fact it was fermented cashew whip, which was definitely weird, but ... Read More

  • So we booked a flight. There were no flights to Penticton that didn't leave at some ungodly hour and with traffic and the fact that it would be an international flight I'd have to get to the airport at 3 AM and I wasn't interested. So we're heading up to Spokane for a week.May drive up to NK'MIP Cellars - it seems to be about 4 hours, and/or may ... • I have been thinking for a while on the idea of facilitating the meeting up in person of those loyally frequenting this site.My preference is to make these meetings open to all members, and even varying the location of any meeting according to convenience since we live all over the world (though mostly in North America). In any case, this new thr... • This Topic is partially intended to start a new thread on daily wine drinking as the earlier topics are just too long and too general.  How about telling us more about your choices and helping me start a new thread for the next generation, so to speak?  The "why" is the interesting part for some of us - but pictures are always welcome; after all... • Nk'Mip Cellars Chardonnay Okanagan Valley Vqa Qwam Qwmt 2006

    Snoothrank:

A refreshingly well balanced chardonnay from 2009. Oak and cream on the nose along with vanilla, sweet peaches and pear. On the palate it brings more fruit and some acidity. Great length. (Side note: made my sweetie think of sour cream or dill potato chips). Read More

  • Nk'Mip Cellars Pinot Noir Okanagan Valley Vqa 2005

    Snoothrank:

This was a wine I tried recently at a Christmas lunch and was pleasantly surprised with. I found it versatile enough to pair with various foods, great flavour profile. For a 'having guests over' + value this is a good choice. Read More

  • What's the worst wine you have ever had? I had some Don Luciano Shiraz over the weekend (which is a $4.00 wine I picked up at Wal-Mart...just to see). I had had the Don Luciano Chardonnay and it was OK, but the Shiraz I had smelled like road kill (very heavy sulfur)--I wonder if I got a bad bottle.  Has anyone else tried it? Read More

  • Nk'Mip Cellars Pinot Noir Okanagan Valley Vqa Qwam Qwmt 2007

    Snoothrank:

The Nk'Mip Cellars Qwam Qwmt has a muted nose of half-ripe red fruit, celery salt and mild barnyard. The attack is quite tart, with sour strawberry dominating the flavor upon entry. There is some structure and elegance but insufficiently satisfying at this price point. Better balance would make it more competitive with a Cote Chalonnaise offer... Read More
