Begun in 1992 by Bruce and Barbara Neyers, Neyers Vineyards produces about 15,000 cases of wine annually. About 25% of our production is Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown on our 50-acre, organically farmed Conn Valley ranch. The vineyard is managed by Maldonado Vineyard Management. We purchase additional grapes from a select group of growers, among them the Sangiacomo family of the Carneros District, Will Nord of Napa, Cam Thieriot of Sonoma Coast, Lee Hudson of Carneros, Jay and Pam Heminway of Chiles Valley, Rich Pato of Oakley, and the Tofanelli family of Calistoga. Winemaker Tadeo Borchardt joined us in 2004 after several years of experience in the industry making wine in both California and New Zealand. He's a Cum Laude graduate of the University of Arizona, a zealous advocate of our natural winemaking practices and an enthusiastic supporter of our appreciation for traditionally produced European wines. He brings with him a valuable combination of technical know-how and respect for tradition. Consulting winemaker Ehren Jordan returned to the Napa Valley in 1994 following a two-year stint in the Northern Rhone town of Cornas, where he worked for Jean-Luc Columbo, one of the most respected Read more »

  • I love N. Rhone Syrah.  It's my favorite red wine in France.  But the acreage of the region is so small and the area that provide its best wines even smaller, that prices have hit the roof.  Sure, there are a few St. Josephs and Crozes-Hermitages that come in around $25, but those are either made for earlier drinking and a lot less thrilling wit... • Neyers Chardonnay Carneros 2010

A very big buttery chard. Nice straw color. On the nose a hint of grapefruit!, some vanilla and a hint of oak. The legs are slow. On the palate again some grapefruit with a hint of lemon, some nice vanilla with ever so slight touch of oak. The rather high alcohol content never shows through all these wonderful flavors. I savor the medium to long... Read More

  • Neyers Chardonnay Carneros El Novillero 2010

Very oaky, caramelly nose. Fairly neutral on the tip of the tongue. On the back of the palate there are some minerally and sort of chemical things going on--maybe, alcohol. Then there is some lemony acid. So, far that's the best thing I get from this one. US$36.69 at Total Wines. OK, and addendum. I may have had a weird aftertaste in my m... Read More

  • Neyers Vineyards Merlot Neyers Ranch Conn Valley Merlot Napa 2006

The color of the wine was dark ruby. The nose showed aromas of plums, minerals, flowers, and earth. On the attack, it displayed flavors of cherry syrup, plums, and herbs. I enjoyed the wine and think that it is well made. However, it is too open-knit for me. Read More

  • I have had a general dislike for syrahs for several years now... they just seem too BIG for me, and my tastes have changed toward lighter-style wines.  However I have discovered that there are some syrahs that I very much enjoy..  Recently, I was on my way up to Russian River.  I stopped in at Taft Street Winery in Sebastopol, www.taftstreetwine...
