Begun in 1992 by Bruce and Barbara Neyers, Neyers Vineyards produces about 15,000 cases of wine annually. About 25% of our production is Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown on our 50-acre, organically farmed Conn Valley ranch. The vineyard is managed by Maldonado Vineyard Management. We purchase additional grapes from a select group of growers, among them the Sangiacomo family of the Carneros District, Will Nord of Napa, Cam Thieriot of Sonoma Coast, Lee Hudson of Carneros, Jay and Pam Heminway of Chiles Valley, Rich Pato of Oakley, and the Tofanelli family of Calistoga. Winemaker Tadeo Borchardt joined us in 2004 after several years of experience in the industry making wine in both California and New Zealand. He's a Cum Laude graduate of the University of Arizona, a zealous advocate of our natural winemaking practices and an enthusiastic supporter of our appreciation for traditionally produced European wines. He brings with him a valuable combination of technical know-how and respect for tradition. Consulting winemaker Ehren Jordan returned to the Napa Valley in 1994 following a two-year stint in the Northern Rhone town of Cornas, where he worked for Jean-Luc Columbo, one of the most respected Read more »

The color of the wine was dark ruby. The nose showed aromas of plums, minerals, flowers, and earth. On the attack, it displayed flavors of cherry syrup, plums, and herbs. I enjoyed the wine and think that it is well made. However, it is too open-knit for me. Read More

  • I have had a general dislike for syrahs for several years now... they just seem too BIG for me, and my tastes have changed toward lighter-style wines.  However I have discovered that there are some syrahs that I very much enjoy..  Recently, I was on my way up to Russian River.  I stopped in at Taft Street Winery in Sebastopol, www.taftstreetwine... • When I first took up wine as a true hobby a few years back, I assumed that what makes a wine enjoyable was about 50/50... Half of the credit goes to the consumer, each of whom has a unique set of habits, preferences, and neural networking. The other half goes to the vintner, who carefully selects his crop, critcally oversees the winemaking proce... Read More

There was a lot of spice and black currants. I have tasted the 2008 at a party. However, I believe that in my opinion 2005 and 2006 are better years of production. Granted they keep low production low, they are not a very popular vineyard. I happen to love their reds, not crazy about the white wines. The wine are very consistent from year to ... Read More

  • My neighbors and I have a mutual love of wine, and have had several tasting parties which we've enjoyed a lot.  We did a blind one, and a non-blind one of very different world varieties.  We usually get bottles in about the 20-30 range, although that's flexible, especially going lower for the blind tasting. For this next one, I was thinking of do... Huge wine, dark/inky, leggy, bold (but slightly tannic) finish, fine nose. Probably better in a year or two. Needs 1/2 hour to open up. Great with spicy food. Read More
