More than a few small wineries have started in a garage, but we may be the only Winery to begin that way, move on to bigger and better quarters, and still be in a garage. The Winery was begun by Allan Haley, a Nevada County native with a European wine education and a dream of bringing winemaking back to our region. In 1880 there were over 300 acres of grapes in the County. In 1980 when the Winery opened there was one small vineyard, recently planted. Twenty years later there are again well over 300 acres of grapes and the wine industry is flourishing once more. We are extremely proud of our role in revitalizing the wine industry in Nevada County. • A oak A - the fact that it said Burgundy on the bottle is entirely irrelevant. It's really only in the last 15 - 20 years or so that people in the US have become aware of the fact that Burgundy is a region. Gallo was making Hearty Burgundy and selling lots of it through the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s and into the 1990s when the US wine market was s... Read More

  • Made a trip to Pahrump Nevada today to play a round of golf with my friends at Mountain Falls GC. Amazing course! Rated #1 in Nevada and the #7 public course in America. Who would have thought a course that nice could be located smack dab in the middle of basically no-mans land.Because the trip is 45 minutes from Vegas, I decided to visit the wi... Read More

This would also fit in well with the "weekday wines" thread. Fox and I agreeing it's a good week day pasta night wine, or even a 1st wine in a flight of Northern Italian Reds. To all Best W... • As many of you know, vellovino has a blog that combines cycling and wine.  And I happen to think the best way to see any wine country is on a bike--whether that takes one day or many.  So we're teaming up to cover the wine territory of the Spanish Vuelta, probably the third most important stage race in cycling.  (TdF and Giro d'Italia being the ...
