Hi everyone. This is my first post on the boards. My wife and I are doing a long weekend in Healdsburg (Jan 15-17) and Yountville (Jan 17-19) over MLK weekend and were looking for some recommendations on wineries to visit. We tend to like more full bodied red wines, but are open to other wines as well. We are from New York and want to focus o... Read More
Majestically seated at the southern gateway to the Napa Valley, Jamieson Ranch Vineyards welcomes guests with award-winning wines, sophisticated cuisine, and jaw-dropping vista views. In the mid-1800s, the 300-acre property was part of General Mariano Vallejo’s Rancho Suscol. Today, cattle still graze on the gently rolling hills, and sheep tend ... Read More
California, the land of sunshine, free spirits, and big wines. Right? Yes, of course, all that is true but today we are seeing that free spirited attitude change the paradigm for wine production. Some might say that we are witnessing a return to a different style of wine. Fresher, lower in alcohol and having more in common with wines produced se... Read More
Hoping that some of you might be able to help me out. I'm going down to AZ for vacation next week. I'm really only broadly planning which areas to go to now, and I really want to nail down some plans so I can have some idea of what we're doing! I know that there is some wine tourism in Arizona. Do you guys know anything about the wines or wineri... Read More
Bottle was stored upright and improperly aged. I have never seen a newer looking cork from a 2005 bottle. The taste wasn't bad, it had significantly tight mouthfeel and the tannin structure did not get a chance to evolve and soften. I am actually glad to have had this experience, hopefully never again. I'm rather new to wine. I've only had de-alcoholized red wines from Ariel and I've had some red and white wines with some relatives who really know their wine. I remember enjoying it very much. But recently I've gotten into wine on my own. I recently picked up some Yellow Tail Shiraz from a nearby Total Wine store. Specifically, I picked up a f... Read More
As a Californian, I have felt the loss of such old names as Almaden, Christian Brothers and Inglenook. (OK, I guess Almaden still exists as a mocking shell of its former being. OK, I know it never was great, but their bottles did have corks. Maybe I am the only person who feels a sense of loss of Almaden.) Another of the old abused names is ... Read More
Sadly I did Not. I had a busy weekend that involved wine, but sadly that was mostly inventorying, packing, and moving wine around the state of NY! Got about a dozen cases moved closer to home, so now I'm pretty well set for the next few months of drinking! Next bottle up looks like it might very well be 1987 Dunn Napa Valley. Funny how Dunn was ... Read More
We will be visiting Sonoma County in a few weeks for a little R&R and I wanted to get some ideas of wineries to visit. This is our first visit to Sonoma so we are a blank slate and have to rely on the typical visitor’s books or our guide book, which is pretty old. So any recommendations are appreciated, regardless of whether they are big or sm... Read More
