Mukuzani is both a style of wine and a vineyard within the Kakheti province, produced in the Republic of Georgia since the 1880s. It’s a dry, red wine made exclusively from Saperavi grapes. What distinguishes it from other wines produced in the area from the same grapes is aging. Mukuzani is aged in oak for at least 24 months before release, whereas the others are younger. Think of it as Georgia’s answer to Brunello, and similarly, this wine benefits from long cellar aging. It is characterized as a dark, smoky wine with deep berry flavors.
