Quality through sacrifice is our priority at Mounts Vineyards. With this philosophy of excellence passing through three generations of wine-grape growers, it is our aspiration to extend it to our new family winery. We are excited to announce the arrival of Mounts Family Winery, opening in the Spring of 2007. Mounts Vineyards has been growing premium wine grapes for over 50 years in the Dry Creek Valley. Every block design brings together the unique orientation of hillside exposure, soil type, and depth. With each of these factors we determine our variety, the appropriate clone, and the most favorable root-stock. The careful planning and consideration that goes into developing our vineyards allows the vine to grow to its full potential for vine health and balanced canopy growth. From them, we achieve the greatest possible expression of fruit character, balance, and structure in all of our wines. Our hope is that you will appreciate the wines we have nurtured from our estate vineyards. We anticipate you Read more »

  • Mounts Grenache Dry Creek Valley 2009

This is a bit dark and roasty on the nose with notes of dusty earth, green tobacco and cracked pepper accenting the dried strawberry fruit. It also does show a bit of heat. Lighter on the palate than expected with lovely brightness to the strawberry and slightly pomegranate-tinged fruit. This has a nice spicy quality on the back end and tannins ... Read More

  • People are not going to like what I have to say here, but that is okay, this is not a popularity contest. I do not write about wine to gather as many friends or followers as possible. I write about wine because I love wine and while I know my palate sometimes strays outside of the mainstream, so be it. I know many other people share my tastes or... Read More

  • Mounts Family Winery Viognier Dry Creek Valley 2010

Classic Viognier nose here with clear notes of peach, jasmine, ginger and bitter orange marmalade over toast. Quite soft in the mouth with a light raw nuttiness early on, followed by diffuse flavors of honeycomb, peach and lime leaf fruit. The finish is light and fairly short, showing some alcohol as well as a return of the fine aromatics of the... Read More

  • Ledbetter Syrah Dry Creek Valley Mounts Vineyard 2006

Tried this wine at BOA Steakhouse in West Hollywood, CA. Didn't know much about it except that the server highly recommended it. It was a stunning example of California Syrah from Sonoma. It paired perfectly with our steaks and we tried to order a bottle to go, but no luck. I'm now a fan and have ordered directly from Read More
